' ' 5-i1C ' ' ' .S'UCCE,S'.S'! The efforts of pilots, planes, destroyers and the entire Huk Group are rewarded as the submarine surfaces. As the conning tower breaks clear of the Water the hull number appears and a wave of relief spreads over all hands. Instead of an enemy, the contact reveals itself as the USS Spinax, one of the Task Group's underwater helpers. Spinax reports to the Huk Group commander that he was attempting an unscheduled attack. I Incidents such as these are not uncommon, and serve to keep the entire Group proiicient in its task. Every time an unidentified contact is discovered it must be pro- secuted as an enemy. In the waters patrolled by the Seventh Fleet and its units, there is no guarantee that the contact will be friendly. It is only through such drills that Hornet and the Huk Group of which she is a part are able to maintain the necessary readiness to perform her task as a force for peace.
