The Board of Kducalion gave our school the opportunity to become the first high school in the state to have a Baspo Grass Field, which will lx the new football soccer field and an all-weather track, which the class °f 1988 will lx the first to experience running on. Even though the class of 1988 did not get the thrill of playing on the field itself, we feel that it was a big step in the right direction for increasing school spirit for the upcoming students. Another accomplishment was made in the improving of the girls softball field. It was resurfaced for better playing conditions. Other constructions included, an addition to the cafeteria and a new wing to better accommodate the B.O.C.E.S. students. 8 L'tiLrllLVSl LULL Lit' Lr(UiL Funniest Most Cheerful Mr. Morris Mrs. Piper Shiest Unruliest Miss Margarum Mr. Brungard Harold I’aul Superintendent of Schools Ralph Schnell President Gerald Walker Assistant Superintendent John Cianeiosi Vice President Joseph Mauro Business Manager Paul Powers David Oakes Jeffery Dewey- 13 Barbara Davis Mary Hanrahan Charles Puree ll Jeanne Wolfanger David Cregan Eugene Maslin IV fc ULlLLU LJL' •lL.ULl c c . 1“ Carol Cali Carol Berry 17 W ululu. utfuit w John Arnault Ann Marie Barillo Josephine Ciancaglini Donald Crosby Donald Koehler John Murphy Ronald Quinlan Cathlynne Wojack 18 LUiLLtLUrlL LttlildiUtiLifcl'4 Charles Bostwick Shelly Sanford Marcia Santelli Charles Young Yvonne Lefferts 19 -V- Kathleen Cregan James Farrell Jane Jamison Robert Miller Sidney Parks Gordon Schiller Vem Tenney John Troy Lawrence Wassink 20 John Wicks John Tobin 21 Jim Leccerdone Jack Morris Ann Quackenbush Francis Libordi 22 WJ umm luatl' Luan Kallin Douglas Printy James Hover Daryl Smith Robert Parada Patti Piper 23 Donna Fackler “tHzlrUiL liLLlial LLIll' LliULIi 1 Li.L.Lt Hill LL 1:1x1“ Francis Norton ULLLL.t“ Jeff Bacon Sharon Farrell 1 I fc JE. ■ .i Florence Hendrickson '“-fSr'X Alice Aullman Francine Cuykendall 25 Phyllis Argentieri “tLLLLll lMliV Patricia Bennett Jan Cornish Janet Crowley Joanna Koch Dave Lamphier 26 Barbara Rose Eleanor Rosell Judy Slrobel V Andrea Scafidi 27 tiLL U L. Since we lost fourteen seniors from the previous year, we knew we were working with a young team. Even thought we did have a young and inexperienced group of athletes, they had the enthusiasm and desire of a winning team. The team was lead by captain Seth King, Jerry Mulhollen and Bill Kays. Bill Kays did an excellent job in the goal for us until injuries sidelined him for the remainder of the season. Defensively, we were strong with captain Jerry Mulhollen, Mike Norton, Jared McDaniel and John Tobias preventing the opposing team from scoring. Scoring goals for us were freshman Craig King, Winston McClananhan, Andy Dustier, and Jason Snowden. Dominating the midfield play which keeps the defense in touch with the offensive line were Seth King, Scott Wood, Jimmy Congelli and Paul Crowe. During the off season the Red Raiders stayed in shape by playing in a few indoor tournaments and participating in the Indoor Soccer Program at Homell High School. 51 “LtLLlL L'LLi; LU‘' Row 1: D. SECTION V CLASS AA CHAMPIONS After finishing the regular season with an impressive 13 - 5 record, the Boys Varsity Basketball Team’s post season accomplishments were totally awesome! With Section V playoff victories over Attica (82-61), Palmyra- Macedon (75-60) and Monroe (64-62), Coach Charley Young’s “round ball” team brought home the Section V Class AA Championship trophy for the first time in 35 years, since 1953. As if it wasn’t enough, the Team decided not to stop there. With a 60-57 victory over Intersectional rival Livonia, the Red Raiders won the right to represent Section V in the State Class B Western Regional Playoffs, the farthest any sports team has gome in the history of Horneil High School. In a hard fought battle and a very physical game, the team fell 77-71 to Niagra LaSalle, but came away with a great feeling of pride in themselves, their school and their community which supported them to the very end — a Moral Victory. The Red Raider Team was led by Mike Coleman, Kevin Farrell, Dan Schwartz, Jeff McDaniel, Greg Connors and Steve Andrews along with a very supportive bench. The cast would like to give a very special thanks to all who helped make the production possible, especially Daryl Smith. John Wicks, and Patti Piper. 82 “i UXWt H,l l:li£k‘' vScnior Choir ROW 1: S. This is one possibility for me to thank all of you for being such good friends and for helping me during this year. This year has been the most wonderful and exciting experience which will always be in my mind And lead my way for future! I know that it is hard to imagine to spend one year away from your own family, friends, school, etc., but now I can say that I would always do it again! My new mom’ . Mrs. Angie Burdetl. and my brother . Chris, are so very special to me and I feel for them like my family if Germany. The purpose of the American Field Service is very important: it stands for a belter communication and understanding between all countries of the world. This is no just for fun year” for the exchange student, he is here to help establish peace. I’m from a small town in the northern part of Germany which is 50 miles away from Hamburg. Both of my parents are doctors who work together in their office. My brother. Tenio. is 19 years old and he is still in school because of our different school system. When he’s done with school he’ll have to go in the service for 18 months like every boy in West-Germany. Since this school year doesn’t count for me. I’ll have to go to school for three more years when I’m back home. My friends will graduate one year before me but that doesn't really matter because the friendships don’t base on the school. The biggest difference between the United States and West-Germany is the school system. We have three different kinds of high schools and it depends on your grades on which one you will attend. If we want to go to the university after high school we first have to go to the Gymnasuim” for 13 years. School starts at 8 am and is over at 1 pm. We don’t play sports in the school but in clubs where you able to practice and play during the whole year. If you like to you can play many sports at once. One thing I love about Homeil is that the people are so friendly and open for other cultures. I’ve felt at home from the very beginning in August and it wasn't hard at all to adjust to your life. Love. Eva Wild My friends and family at my birthday party My parents I live in Alcoy. Spain which has a population of 80.000. It is located in the east of Spain and is situated 50 miles from the Medditeranean Sea. Alcoy is a warm city compared to Hornell. It has averages temperatures of high 60‘s or low 70’s in the winter. School in Spain is a little different in the length of the school day. Every other week day we start school at 9 a.m. On the other week days school starts at 10 p.m. School always ends at 6 p.m. We also have a 2 hour lunch period. 1 would like to thank by host families for letting me stay with them and for being so patient with me. I will never forget their kindness. I would also like to wish farewell to all the friends that 1 have made in Hornell and throughout the state. I've had a lot of fun and I could never begin to describe what it meant to me to go abroad for a year. Thanks!
