COMMANDER J. W. NYUUIST USS HORNE DLG-30 Commander NYOUIST was graduated from the U S. Naval Academy and commissioned as Ensign, USN, in 1955. His first tour of duty was aboard USS OZBOURN lDD-8461 till 1958. Executive Officer of USS PRIIVIE llVlSO-466l was CDR. NYOUlST's next assignment. This was followed by three years of postgraduate work in Ordnance Engineering at the Navy's School in lVIonterey, California. In 1963, CDR. NYOUIST commissioned USS COCHRANE lDDG-211 as Weapons Officer. He then vvas assigned to the Staff of Commander Anti- Submarine Warfare Forces, Pacific Fleet, as Weapons Officer. In 1968 he spent one year with the Joint U S. Public Affairs Office in the Republic of Vietnam. CDR. NYOUIST came to HORNE from that assignment on October 31st, 1969. EXECUT VE OFFICER

R. GLASER COMMANDING OFFICER USS HORNE DLG-30 March 1970 to Present Captain GLASER, a native of lowa, entered the Navy in 1943 through the Navy College Program at St. Ambrose College, Davenport, Iowa. He subsequently attended Lawrence and Columbia Universities before commissioning as Ensign, USNR, in 1945. After Destroyer School he was accepted into the Regular Navy and served in USS DYESS IDD-880l until 1947. While in DYESS Captain GLASER married the former Joyce Charlotte Ericsson of Chicago, Illinois. Shortly after marriage, Captain GLASER left DYESS for duty with the Fleet Training Group, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. ln 1950, Captain GLASER joined the pre-commissioning crew of USS TARAWA lCVA-40l and served in thatship until 1952. From 1952 to 1954 he served as Assistant Lieutenant Detail Officer in the Bureau of Naval Personnel, Washington, D.C. Following General Line School at IVlonterey, California, he was Executive Officer, USS COATES IDE-685l, from 1955 to 1956. In 1956 he returned to school as a student of the Command and Staff Course, U.S. Naval War College, Newport, R.l. Captain GLASER again served as Executive Officer with his assignment in 1957 to USS SOLEY IDD-7071. In 1959, he received his first command at sea in USS SNOWDON lDE-246l. In 1960, Captain GLASER returned to Washington in a strategic planning assignment in the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations. He was selected in 1962 to attend the United Kingdom Joint Services Staff College in Latimer, England. Following graduation he served as Plans Officer for the Commander in Chief, Eastern Atlantic in London,- England. In mid-1965 Captain GLASER assumed command of USS SAIVIUEL B. ROBERTS IDD-8231 and served in that capacity until becoming Commander Destroyer Division TWO SIX TWO in August of 1967. In February 1969, Captain GLASER commenced studies at San Diego State College and came to USS HORNE from that assignment. 19
