Executive COMMANDER EUGENE S. DVORNICK A native of Wharton, New Jersey. Commander DVORNICK enlisted in the Navy in 1954 and attended FT A School. He received a fleet appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy and was commissioned with the class of 1961. After commissioning Commander DVORNICK attended Officer Submarine Training from which he was assigned to submarine duty. Commander DVORNICK served admirably in the Submarine Service. He served aboard the submarines USS CONGER. USS BANG. USS G.C. MARSHALL, and USS SAILFISH, before at- tending the U.S. Naval Post Graduate School. Following Post Graduate School where he received his Masters Degree in Operations Re- search. he was Executive Officer of the USS HARDHEAD. Commander DVORNICK also served a tour with the Joint Strategic Planning Staff at Offutt Air Force Base Nebraska. Commander DVORNICK is married to the former Patricia A. Milliken of Hackensack. New Jersey. They have four children, Steven. Laura, Lisa and Eugene.

CHIEF OF STAFF CRUISER-DESTROYER GROUP FIVE CAPTAIN JAMES J. TYSON Captain TYSON entered the Navy in July 1946 through the Naval Aviation College Pro- gram. After attending the University of Alabama, he entered preflight training at Pensacola as a Midshipman in May 1948. Following designation as a Naval Aviator in November 1949, he served with VF-173 flying F4U Corsairs and F9F Cougars. Subsequently, he was assigned as a flight instructor at Pensacola followed by a tour on board USS CORREGIDOR. In 1957 he was ordered to Stanford University for completion of his undergraduate education in engi- neering. Upon graduation. Captain TYSON reported to VX-4 for duty with Guided Missile Unit No. 41 at Point Mugu. In 1960 he attended the U.S. Naval Test Pilot School and then served as a project officer with the Flight Test Division at the Naval Air Test Center, Patuxent River. While at the NATC, Captain TYSON participated in tests and evaluationof several airplanes including the A-4, F-8, F-4, P-3, A-5 and others. In 1963 he was selected as the U.S. Navy pilot for a tripartite V STOL program in England. Upon completion of flight tests in England, he became OINC of a triservice team to continue tests of the P.1127 for the three U.S. armed services in the United States. Returning to the Fleet in 1966, Captain TYSON served as Executive Officer of VA-216, flying the A-4 Skyhawk. Deployments included one to the Med and one combat tour in WESTPAC. In December 1968 Captain TYSON reported to USS CORAL SEA as Ops Officer where he served until receiving orders as Commander, Attack Carrier Air Wing Fourteen with service onboard USS ENTERPRISE. In June 1971, he reported to OPNAV as Executive Assistant to the Director, Tactical Electro-magnetic Pro- grams. In 1973 he attended the Advanced Management Program, Harvard Business School then served as Director, Test and Evaluation Division OPNAV. In August 1974, he reported to Commander Cruiser Destroyer Group FIVE for his present assignment as Chief of Staff. Captain TYSON is from Mobile, Alabama, and is married to the former Miss Ann Buckley of Pachuta, Mississippi. Captain and Mrs. TYSON reside in San Diego, California. They have one daughter, Paige, and two sons, Jim and Thornton.

Officers COMMANDER WILLIAM VAN ALLEN Commander William Maurice Dirk VAN ALLEN received his commission through OCS after receiving his BA Degree from the Centre College of Kentucky. He has served aboard the USS JENKINS (DDE-447), USS CHOWANOC (ATF-100), and USS BRONSTEIN (DE-1037), in addition to commanding the USS ENERGY (MSO-436). Commander VAN ALLEN has also served on the Staffs of COMNAVFOR Vietnam, CINCLANT FLT, and COMCRUDESGRU-FIVE. He is a graduate of the Defense Intelligence course and the Naval War College. Commander VAN ALLEN is married to the former Lanny Gregory, and they have two children. 9
