EMERGENCY STUDENT AID ACT ESAA, Emergency Student Aid Act, is a federally funded special remedial program in reading and mathe- matics. Our program of ESAA at Horn Lake includes the seventh, eighth, and ninth grades. In mathematics our goal is to reinforce the basic skills of addition, subtrac- tion, multiplication, and division. Our goal in reading is to reinforce phonetic skills and build individual ability in comprehension. Both programs are directed to individual instruction, constantly analyzing each student's weak- nesses and strengthening them . The ESAA advisory committee is made up of three rep- resentatives from each program. The six students are responsible to all other ESAA students to broafien their knowledge of things outside the classroom. This year the committee has had the following func- tions: a food drive for Thanksgiving, collection of toys and clothing for Christmas, Christmas dramatization of the Christmas story, an exhibit for Black History Week, and an Easter program. All of the functions were very success- ful. xii IIUIE VIRUS, i Cmnscr mpgs' -Q., ...4 ..,.
