Of Thee I ingw From the very beginning music gave pleasure to the colonists, even though it came only from jew's harps or the folk songs they remembered from the Old World. All young ladies and most young gentlemen were expected to learn to play an instrument or sing with skill. George Washington played a flute and Thomas Jefferson a violon- cello. Singing and music societies grew to be the favorite form of enter- tainment. Horn Lake's large high school chorus provides entertainment for programs and enjoys just singing together. From the large chorus comes many talented ensembles such as quartets, soloists, and the glee club. The chorus plans to participate in the District Festival. The Junior High Chorus hopes to be the nucleus for a good high school pro- gram in the future. They hope to learn more about music and to grow musi- cally during their high school years. His Truth is Marching n 77 As America grew, the citizens of almost every town took special pride in organizing a local band. It was once a common practice for employers to advertise for workmen who play a band instrument. From the beginning, the development of bands have improved . This year we take great pride in the Horn Lake High School Marching Band. The band provides an outlet for musically talented young people: musical enjoyment for the student body, parents, and community. Mem- bers of the band are involved in solo- ensemble competition, District and State Band Clinics, State Band Festival and many local activities including parades, shows and concerts. The Junior High Band provides an outlet for talented junior high stu- dents. They hope to be the great Horn Lake High School Marching Band of tomorrow.
