lf There Were Never Any Problems . . I Wouldn't Have a J ob . If we compared Horn Lake to an ocean liner, the students would represent the passengers, the staff the crew, and the administration would certainly be the officers. Their job is to keep our school on a steady course, working out problems with students, parents, and teachers. Making the large and small decisions that will affect our school life is the responsibil- ity which occupies much of their time. Mr. Caldwell, Area Principal, states his views about Horn Lake's growth. Horn Lake is in a developing stage. We hope to expand more areas in curriculum and extra-curricular activities, and we have the nucleus right now to do this. I have great expectations in all the curricular fields. Mr. Caldwell enjoys the rewards of working with people on a professional level and set- ting up programs that will help students in the future. Mr. Upchurch talks about Horn Lake students: I wish we could have more school spirit from the entire student body. One of the best qualities of Horn Lake stu- dents is the willingness of the majority to cooperate. In gen- eral, they are good students. I would stack them up against stu- dents of any other school. One regret of Mr. Upchurch is that most of his time with students is spent with troubled or problem students. He misses the associa- tion with high-achievers that he had as a classroom teacher. Mr. Johnston also emphasizes the need for a higher quality of school spirit at Horn Lake, but he feels that Most students are the greatest, and 99070 of them can be reached if the effort is put forth. The role of the teacher or administrator is a demanding one, especially in the field of student-faculty relations. Mr. Johnston observes: l found that I had a love for every student I came in contact with. When stu- dents would come to me looking for advice, comfort, or just a friend to talk with, I found that there's more to teaching than just reading, writing, and arithme- t1c.
