V -1 JUNXOKS The Junior Class of 1946 and '47 started the session with good school spirit. Everyone was happy to greet old class mates after a pleasant summer. , Class officers were elected. They were Britt Hughey, Presidentg Bobby Poley, Vice- Presidentg Emogene Rochelle, Secretary-Treasure erg and Margaret Bmwles, Reporter. However, when Britt Hughey moved, Bobby took his place as president. He has served us well during the remainder of school. Some of our members joined various activi- ties and clubs, including Glee Club, Home Eco- nomics, Y-Teens, Letter Clubs, and the F.F.A. Clube Besides these, a number of our members were outstanding in the field of sports. We were very well represented in both boys' and girls' basketball teams, football and baseball. We feel that our year as Juniors has been successful, but as Seniors, we feel we must and will do better. work and responsibility lie a- headg determination and ability will aid us in striving for and attaining a goal that will carry us far as Seniors. in I 'Q 01 , it 'V ji 1 ' in in f f'-S ' X x Xi lfxx , 4' x X X :Q 1 f ff -' -1 Jq I f - . f ! - 3 CBN K 6215! .-:. From experience we know that they will need it for it is a hard task to instruct the student of the Horn Lake High School. 2-Believing that we are the smartest and the best looking seniors ever to inhabit the high school, we leave our pictures to 're- mind other classes who -come after us of their illustrious forebearers. 5-Knowing that we go into a world where we can no longer take time to use our text- books, but must rely upon the knowledge we carry with us, we leave the 'textbooks for students who follow after us. 4-The seats we have occupied in the class- rooms we leave to the members of the freshman class. Believing that the fresh- men are not competent yet to use and 'oc- cupy these seats, we create a trust hereby appointing the sophomores and juniors as trustees to guide the use of these chairs or seats, each class exercising ' actively the rust for a period of one year. 5-Our footsteps in the sands of time we e z V A9 ti it leave to serve as examples of the way in which other students should walk. Our finger prints on the walls' and in books where they should not be, we leave behind to show others that by our finger prints we shall be known. We believe that the weak and struggling sophomores are in need of our grades, so we leave our grades to the sophomores. In making this bequest we are not unmindful of the freshmen and the juniors. The freshmen have already been willed our seats in clause four of this will. The juniors will be remembered before the will is finished. the juniors we leave our caps and gowns order that they may be properly robed at their commencement. We leave these robes believing that the juniors will'be well enough versed in correct social usage to Know how to wear them at their com- mencement. We also will to the juniors the sign WReserved For Seniorsn on the back table in the lunchroon. May thisssign'he1p them to Keep away pests as it did us. To in To the worthy Mr. Elmore we leave all the good thoughts that assembly speakers have attempted to pass on to us. We, full of great ambitions, have no room in our al- ready to full heads for these thoughts. This bequest is made to Mr. Elmore with the kindest of consideration and after much deliberation. He can use them for talks in faculty meetings. Z' if 'E 5 13 71 vc: I1 Z, 5 L 1 Q 1 T ,L . , s 2 3 6 ,L Q 1 2 11 E 1 ,Y 1. The world was sometimes very sweet but we were sometimes very mischievous childreni in those years. About thirty-two of us began winding our wav through the years under the guidance of our patient first' grade tuuChuT, Mrs. Offit. More than half of our present members began-this long journey together. They were Shirlev Clifton,' Janet Whiteg Kenneth Melntesh, Louis Day, Wilma Scruggs, Elizabeth Kevil, and Pauline Sisk. We lost Pauline, but she returned to us in the third grade. Our second year was very successful under the careful instruction of Miss Hiller. This year rolled by without an ad- dition to the group. Miss Easter was our instructor forrthe third gradeg and even though we received a number of good sound paddlings, wc made it through all right. Here, we gained a new member, Mary Kate Von Boeekman. We passed through the fourth grade with Mrs. Winn doing the coaching. I In our fifth year we were under Mrs. CooK's direction. Some of us weren't ex- we '- . This brought on the punishment of staying in at recess until we ,had written Nsnowballu one thousand times. l We came through the sixth grade very successfully with Mr. Moore as our guide, even though the majority of us had measles. Our new member that year was Billy Shackel- ford. When we entered the seventh grade, we didn't Know quite how to act with such a great number of teachers and the changing of classes. Cur teachers were Mrs. Hodge fbr English, literature, aid spellingg Mr. Bry- ant for civicsg Mr. Hodge forfenvironmentg and Mr. Turman for mathematics. Our new member was Mary Elizabeth EuBard. 'By the time we 'entered the eighth grade, we had finally grown used to the daily grind of hour classes. We were taught literature, English, and spelling by Miss Turner, history by Miss Lassiter, home eco- nomics by Miss Sledge,- agriculture by Mr. Bryant, and math by Lr. hee . .The ninth grade was gust a normal year. CLASS PROPHECY As I sit here gazing into my crystal ball I see into the future of the senior class of ' 47 at Horn Lake, Mississippi. First, I see one of the most capable members of the class, You Know the one I'm speaking of. It is Janet White, of course. I see her behind a desk in Central High School in Dallas, Texas teaching geometry to about thirty students. Now I see very faintly another figure. Oh yes, it is plainer now, and it is Mary Elizabeth DuBard. She has always been good in commer- cial Work, and I see her as private secretary to the president of the United States. As this figure disappears I see a party in procession. Why of course it is at the Shackelford mansion where Mr. and Mrs. Billy Shackelford are entertaining the elite of'society. Mr. Shackelford is the owner of the Shackelford Sucker Company. Mrs. Shackelford is the former Mary Kate Von Boeck- man. As I gaze I see a beautiful green pasture. All of a sudden I see a figure in the distance. As I come closer the face looks famil- iar. I look again and recognize Louis Day. He is bent over a sick . H.: ..f,,,. manages, as .-fmvwwa7ffWennlWe ,.,, . M, - - ms, mule, administering treatment. we begin talking and he tells me he has established his omn oninnl clin -ic in Bald Knob, Texas. Still gazing intently I see Jackson, Mississippi. At the asylum at Whitfield who should I see but Shirley Clifton. She is a dietiti- cian for the insane. Strange as it may seem, I am in ny hotel room and when my radio is turned on there is a news cast reporting that Elizabeth Kevil, the famous burlesque queen, has been killed in a plane crash in Paris, FI'41I1Cx: . The scene changes to Memphis, and on Sunday morning at the Bel- levue Baptist Church, who should I see but the pastor, Kenneth Mc In - tpsh, greeting the people of his congregation. Looking again into the crys- tal my attention is attracted by a familiar name announced on the ra- dio. The name is Mrs. Barbara Pain- ter Jones and they are announcing the birth of six bouncing boys, she names them Ennie, Meanic, Minnie, Moc, Isom, and Caleph. 6 , .5 9? Of course we remem- ber Mrs. Logang she was Pauline Sisk. As I have seen every member of the class and what 'they will be doing in the future, I will lie down for a long, long nap.
