Friendly Facilitators ay I help you? This was the at- titude of the new Horizon peer facilita- tors. Hoping to aid hurt- ing students, the coun- selors decided to select kids that wanted to help and possibly relate bet- ter with other students. These unique high schoolers desired to council and encourage others to work through their problems. To do this, the facilitators went to lunch with the students, spent time with them and became a friend. Many students asked, why peer facilitators? Tammy Hoffman best explained, We saw a need to have more Hori- zon students who care. Mrs. Woodward, one of the counselors who brought together the idea of the peer facilita- 134- COUNSELING tors, said, lt is an excit- ing and unique way for outstanding students to serve their school com- munity. These facilitators served other students in several different ways. Not only did they per- sonally talk to students but also brought in oth- ers to help them. One such was the speaker Josh McDowell who spoke about family rela- tionships and boyfriend fgirlfriend relationships, which all teenagers can relate to. The new peer facilitators were a valu- able addition to the school. We The People ugh! This was the com- mon response heard from Advanced Placement CA.P.J students everywhere. Whether A.P. American History for juniors or A.P. Government for seniors, it mattered little. Mr. Wolfe's crushing tests and comprehensive notes brought a new meaning to the word tough. Junior Kim Loring proclaimed On the days you take notes, you can not do anything else for the rest of the day because your hand is in a perpetual crampf' You are now probably wonder- ing what went on in these classes. A.P. American History in- volved. . . well, . . .American His- tory. The first semester spanne from the early settlers to recoi struction. Second semester Wei from there up to Vietnam. A.l Government followed along sim lar lines, tracing from the Revoll tion to recent governmental pol cies. Still you question what make these classes so special? Their fo: mats seem identical to regulz classes. The big difference ir volved a fifty dollar college tes This exam was so difficult that simple overview would not cut i A.P. classes are actually a thir year college class.
