Foreign Fun hat comes into your mind when you think of a foreign language club? One might imagine a classroom full of kids reciting uno, dos, tres or hola senior, but a for- eign language club is much more than that. 132 - FOREIGN LANG. For one thing, it involves ser- vice. Canned food drives for the less fortunate were conducted this year. It also involves socializ- ing. As Lisa Zajas said, a foreign language club was a good place to meet people. Friendly Facilitators ay I help you? This was the at- titude of the new Horizon peer facilita- tors. Hoping to aid hurt- ing students, the coun- selors decided to select kids that wanted to help and possibly relate bet- ter with other students. These unique high schoolers desired to council and encourage others to work through their problems. To do this, the facilitators went to lunch with the students, spent time with them and became a friend. Many students asked, why peer facilitators? Tammy Hoffman best explained, We saw a need to have more Hori- zon students who care. Mrs. Woodward, one of the counselors who brought together the idea of the peer facilita- 134- COUNSELING tors, said, lt is an excit- ing and unique way for outstanding students to serve their school com- munity. These facilitators served other students in several different ways. Not only did they per- sonally talk to students but also brought in oth- ers to help them. One such was the speaker Josh McDowell who spoke about family rela- tionships and boyfriend fgirlfriend relationships, which all teenagers can relate to. The new peer facilitators were a valu- able addition to the school.
