Foofball 1n fhe Spofllghf Tolleston 25 H M 7 The curtarn was opened on the flrst scene of our 1947 football season aga1nst Tolleston The Horse men were prlmed for th1s one but so were the Blue Ralders The team held down our trad1t1onal rlvals for the flrst half but super1or Ralder power pa1d off 1n the last two quarters Ch1c Thureanos made our lone touchdown on a run from scrlmmage Roosevelt 21 H M 0 The Horsemen suffered a letdown after the Tolles ton game and they couldnt get started aga1nst Roosevelt The hghter and speedler Panthers were the aggressors throughout the contest The runn1ng of Thureanos was our only OHGIISIVE threat Waukegan 13 H M 17 The team started to lell aga1nst the Bulldogs but the1r attempts to ach1eve v1ctory were hlndered by the Ill1no1s offlclals who penalrzed the team over a hundred yards Bob Beck and B111 Fatouros made our scores Fatouros and Chr1s Helne comblned to set a record wrth a 76 yard pass play for one of our scores Valparalso 6 H M 18 Horace Mann found W1nn1ng ways agarn t the V1k1ngs to start Act II of our season Two touchdowns by Beck and one by Mlckey Morton comprlsed our scorlng aga1nst the helpless V1k1ngs Valpo held on gamely but they were no match for the Horsemen s ground game and rugged defense Froebel O H M 13 The team played one of the1r best games of the year aga1nst a strong Froebel aggregatlon Wzth Beck and Iohn Durk1n golng over for scores the Horsemen earned the1r f1rst shutout 1n a hard fought contest Our l1ne dlsplayed great defenslve strength 1n stoppmg the power runnmg of the Red Devlls Evansvllle 28 H M 13 The Horsemen had a n1ce tr1p to the Pocket C1ty and they had a n1ce t1me wh1le they were there but the tr1p was too much of a stra1n for the boys and they weren t 1n top shape for the game Dlscountmg the score It was a t1ght contest throughout Durkm made both of our scores and Fatouros converted for our other po1nt Lew Wallace 20 H M 0 The team was surprlsed by an underrated Hornet crew who would not be stopped to start the last act of our season The Horsemen could not penetrate the tlght defense thrown at them by the Hornets It was a close game unt11 the Hornets added the1r thxrd touchdown late 1n the game desp1te the efforts of the weary Horsemen Hobart O H M 24 Th1s was a crushmg vlctory for the Horsemen The Br1ck1es were hlghly out classed but they fought gamely for a lost cause Em1l1o Manna start1ng h1s frrst game at quarterback made one of our scores Bud Bark Veteran back also made a s1x pomter and our rehable Bob Beck made the other two Agam as before our l1ne was superlatlve 1n stoppmg any and all thrusts made by the Br1ck1es Wh1t1ng 18 H M 12 Thls was a f1tt1ng cllmax to our season We lost the game ln po1nts but lt was a def1n1te moral vfctory for the boys who gave so much of the1r t1me and effort towards br1ng1ng fame to H M Wh1t1ng thought that they got a break when they drew Horace Mann as the1r opponent 1n the conference play off but they were m1staken because the Horse men were beaten by the clock not by superlor O1ler power It was a trght game all the way w1th the Orlers always on top Beck made one touchdown h1s last for H M and our other one was made by guard V1rg1l Bardash on a very odd play Wh1t1ng had the ball near mld f1eld on an attempted pass tackle Ioe Orlrch who had broken through the O1ler l1ne. deflected the ball 1nto the a1r and Bardash grabbed It and then proceeded to outspr1nt the whole Wh1t1ng team to the goal l1ne and our other touchdown Pg?
