Sophomores Ready to Move-Down A-Ks the class of '53 entered high school. they made their way immediately, if some what reluctantly, to the sophomore roost. There they sat for their first assembly on the opening day of school. Naturally they were somewhat frightened, hut the friend- liness and support of the upper classmen soon gave them courage to face the pros- pects of life in the senior high with equani- mity. bn I row: Barley I,oi14l1-i-lm-'k. l.orr:a1in-li:ng- Ion, Bzltzxlie .Iordz111. lionzild l.lHlll. lop Vowi .Inv Slmmlr-r.l, In-Roy Anvlyivk. Xllhen the time rolled around for the sophomores to demonstrate their talents to the upper classmen, it seems they slipped in their responsibilities toward the school. For this lapse, they received the now well- known appellation of Balcony Bratsf' as a reward. However, their pride was so severely wounded that they came through with a sensational assembly somewhat later in the semester. Those participating in it were as follows: Paul Rowe, Don fxrthaud. Nancy Louderhack, jackie Christian, Ho- ward lllhittacker, joe Shandera, Stuart Smith, I.arry Douglas, and .lack Robert- son. 'lihe class of '53 had only one foothall star, jack Pearson. black was the lone sophomore to receive his letter in the grid- iron sport. iliurning out for haskethall were .lack Pearson, Aloe Shandera. lid lfrotlel. l.eroy .Xndyiek. l.arry ilihompson, Dick Phillips. 24
