Several prospects for varsity duty next season were unearthed from the members of the B-Squad. They include John Adams, wosloy Keller, Fred Betts, Eugene Almy, James Wold, Herb Lawson, Jim Scruggs, Warren Gary, James Hardin, Bobby Hardin, O. T. Maddox, and Earl Craft o ,,- Q lm - B-Squad 26-Princeton 6 B-Squad 13--Madisonville II2 H f O--Owensboro 19 6-Owensboro 19 5 ' ' ' 9 f lb-Princeton 6 IU4-Madisonville O . ff jg fi k J .mf C ff B-squad Basxoubau 4 fl K Y ' t vi, X The B-Squad basketball team, under Coach J. D. Jones, had a highly successful sea- son. The team suffered only one loss in the regular season an that at the hands of La Fayette, a team they had previously defeat d. Due to the fact that the varsity and the second team used the gym in the afternoons after school, the B-Squad had to practice at night. However, the boys wanted to play very badly and were undaunted by adverse practice conditions. The B-Squad made a clean sweep of the Christian County Junior High Tournament held in Central Avenue Gym. Then our boys traveled to Paducah to participate in the Western Ken- tucky Junior High Tournament. They lost their first game 28-26 to a fine Mayfield team in a hard-fought battle. To be chosen for the National Honor Society is probably the highest honor a student of Hopkinsville High School can receive. A student must rank in the upper third of his class scholastically to be eligible to be elected. If he has fulfilled this requirement by the time he is a junior, he is given a ballot on which are written the names of all the students in the upper third of his class. He then rates his classmates according to char- acter, leadership, and service. He and the other students are also voted on by the teachers. The ratings are compiled by the principal and five per cent of the junior class and fifteen per cent of the senior class are selected. These new members are tapped in an impressive ceremony by students who were chosen the previous year. A person who has been tapped should feel proud and at the same time very grateful to his teachers and fellow students for the honor which they have bestowed upon him. Above all he should do his best to live up to the high ideals for which the National Honor Society stands.
