MCK TRU5 PN Zz 4 USSELL A I 'lass Prophecy ETURNING to New Haven after an absence of five years abroad, during which time I was on a special assignment for thc International New Youth Movement Inc. successfully instal- ing the American Sorority idea in the secondary schools of Europe I realized that just fifteen years ago I had my first experience with American Sor- orities. This started a train of thought that brought back memories of my classmates at Hop kins who were also frequent visitors to sorority meetings I began to wonder how each had fared I did not have to search sery far to find the oc cupations of the first group The morning news paper was my source Who should I see seated in the middle of a picture on the front page but McCormick who had recently been appointed to the Supreme Court A little farther down the page I reid that Loring ones had just made an other large gift of money to the Girl Scout or ganization Also I was not at all surprised to see that John Pearson had been elected president of the New Haven Rallroad In the political section there were an excellent cartoon by Roger Palmer and the context of Congressman Birmingham s re cent speech on the evils of long school hours and long assignments The sporting page contained the names of four more Hopeful Youths of days gone by Manager Finnegan seemed quite sure that his team was going to win the Pennant this year Bud Erich had just broken some more swimming records and from all indications was the best bet to uphold America s prestige in the coming Olympics I was not surprised to see that Commod are White s boat had won the New York to Bermuda race A statement at the bottom of the page greatly aroused my interest Although the New Haven Eagles were still in the cellar position in the hockey league Jim Carton the new manager promised that they would certainly gixe a good account of themselx es the coming year Further search showed that no more class mem bers were mentioned in the paper Therefore I decided that perhaps I should go down town and pursue the subject further. Before leaving I called up Harrison Brothers, Tailors, and asked them to call for my suit later on in the week. On the way down town I stopped in for a chat with ack Porter-newly appointed professor of Romance languages at Y-ale. We had quite a pleasant talk. I learned from him th-lt Magers and Clemence were coaching at one of the big Western colleges and had had a successful season Also he said that Bill Higgard was making good money with his candid camera shots which appeared in all the big magazines After leasing ack I continued on my quest Imagine my surprise when George Piontek came up to me on Chlpel Street and tried to sell me some pictures He said that he wus doing quite well and vns the only agent for Weber in New Haven While George and I were tilking Pete Burr came rushing by We were not able to hold .1 lengthy conversation with him because he had to hurry to the Llwn Club where he and Cham pagne were to play in a Squash tournament The clock on Center Church struck twelve so George and I decided to go to lunch As we walk ed by the theaters I noticed the names of three more members of our class Smiling Bill Dawless and his band were to make a personal appearance at the Paramount and Don Hudson was the lead ing man in a new hit Bill Boaz had also been snatched up by the talent scouts and was to sing the leading role in the revival of Victor Herbert s Naughty Marietta I had to hurry home right after lunch because Dr Russell and I were going to drive out to Fitz gerald s turkey farm to buy a couple of Joe s fine birds for Sunday dinner While we were out there oe told us that Don McCluskey was working in New York and that Felix was designing and build ing bridges on the XY est Coast That night I relaxed in my favorite armchair conscious of a day wel' spent Not a single failure out of the whole class' It made me feel proud that I too was a 'nember of the class of 38 Zz.. f A CN X' M M FAA ff fggxf me we xfx G1 X igff C, K V I I ' , , ' I I V F 7 , 1 7 s s ' e ' h 'I I 3. 5 . , , , .
