 NEW CRITERIA FOR CLASS SIZE THE LITTLE THEATER CATERS TO LARGE GROUPS OF MORE THAN 100 STUDENTS. INDEPENDENT STUDY TIME IS DEVOTED TO GROUP PROJECTS AND INDIVIDUAL WORK. LABORATORY GROUPS ARE SMALL DISCUSSION GROUPS USUALLY MADE UP OF 25 TO OF 10 TO 20 STUDENTS ARE 40 STUDENTS. CONDUCTED LIKE SEMINARS. MODULAR SCHEDULING is a system of teaching and learning that provides an educational process which can produce selfdirecting citizens . . . The world we live in demands self-starting, self-directing citizens capable of independent action. The world is changing so fast we cannot hope to teach each person what he will need to know in twenty years. A NEW CLOCK... NEW EMPHASI ' ST ■ THE NEW DESIGN hat changed the clocks .of Hopkins High School. No longer is each class bound to the traditional hour. Tho classes can now vary from IS minutes to two hours, depending on how the subject can be taught best. The day consists of 21 modules of 20 minutes each. These modules are combined to suit best the purposes of the indivi dual group. Classes do not meet every day. Some meet once a week and others meet as often as four. The subject governs the schedule; not the schedule dictating the subject. GROUP SIZE MUST VARY ACCORDING TO GROUP PURPOSE 8 THE PSYCHOLOGICAL AND PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT MUST BE APPROPRIATE TO ACTIVITIES. S ON VARYING OBJECTIVES. In addition to her favorites, art and English, she also studied biology, American History, French, and algebra. Despite her many subjects, Ellen enjoyed a great deal of independent study time. During these mods she preferred to study in empty classrooms rather than in one of the crowded resource centers. Ellen says, I’ve been working much harder this year, and I really wanted to.
