STEBLAY, Engliih, College Composition, Dromo Directof- PLAYS, POEMS AND ASSORTED PROTESTS STUDENT PARTICIPATION in theatrical presentations was one of severol activities related to the English department. This year the students presented such plays os My Three Angels directed by Mr. Steblay and an adaptation of George Bernard Shaw's Androcles and the Lion directed by Mrs. Magnusson. The varsity debate team had a tough job trying to match the achievements of lost year's state champions, on the topic of compulsory arbitration. However, early this year the sophomore team did show possibilities when they won a tournament in which the varsity teom finished third. Amends were made the following week when varsity took second and the sophomore teom -well, considerably less than second. Motif, the annual literary magazine, wos published with a supplement of metaphorical observations on abstract ideas. These publications gove students a means of displaying their creative talents. Meanwhile, the journalism class taught by Miss Elstrom not only produced their own Hi-Crier but also contributed articles to the Review. 23
