ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL, MR. MILTON OJALA HAS THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR SCHEDULING AND STUDENT PERSONNEL FROM TINY DESKS DO GIANT DICTATES FLOW MR. COPPINS, PRINCIPAL, and Mr. Ojola ond Mr. Roof, Assistant Principals, as decision-makers at Hopkins High School, needed to continually contemplate the past and evaluate the present to formulate more effective and creative programs for each student. This type of forward-looking thought brought the usage of electrical data processing to Hopkins High seven years ago. It is now used effectively to schedule students in classes, prepare the honor roll, ond decide class rank. Looking ahead again, the decision-makers hove this year considered the adoption of a modular curriculum at Hopkins High. This concept of flexible scheduling would allow each student more time for independent study in areas of particular interest. Each class would not necessarily meet five days a week, ond the time spent in class would vary according to the subject matter being presented. Smaller discussion groups would be on integral part of this program, os well as larger lecture groups. According to Mr. Ojala this type of flexible program would require the merging of technical skills with a changing pattern of teacher behavior os Hopkins High School seeks new and more effective ways to utilize time. ENERGETICALLY, MR. DENNIS ROOF PERFORMS THE DUAL ROLE OF ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL AND GOVERNMENT TEACHER. 15
