GIVING THOUGHT TO VERBS AND VERSE rEGISTRATION points out the popularity the English classes enjoy ot Hopkins High School. This year 100% of the student body signed up for the course. As sophomores we studied Greek culture through its literature, some Shakespearean plays, and short stories from all over the world. Various forms of American literature were studied in the junior year. This course begon with the study of Puritan literature and extended to modern times. Senior English entailed the study of English literature through Shakespearean plays, poetry, ond various novels. In the post two years sophomore and senior classes have had an opportunity to view ploys they hove read, such os Hamlet and Saint Joan, at the famous Guthrie Theater. We were also able to obtain such movies as The Death of a Salesman ond Cry, the Beloved Country for school use. MRS. KAREN J. LANGUAGE STUDIES SPAN CONTINENTS OS THE WORLD has become increasingly smaller, our effective communication with other notions hos become more essential. Through a study of foreign languages and cultures we have best been able to gain an understanding of our neighbors ond appreciate their cultures. Our language department had this very spirit of cooperation and apprecia'-'on as its goal in teaching. With the use of such supplementary materials as film strips and the language shelves in the Resource Library, French, German, Spanish, Russian, and Latin cultures have been made stimulating and informative. Our language lob, now in its third year, continued to give students invaluable practice speaking conversationally the languages studied grammatically in their classrooms.
