MR. CLIFFORD BRUN-ZEU, Orehettro Director. MR. WALLACE GEARS, CKoif. Hormony. MR. JOHN TESAR, Bond Director. AMPLE OPPORTUNITY REWARDS TALENT aRT AT HOPKINS HIGH has served many purposes. This year under the direction of three instructors — Mr. Engelbart, Mrs. Phelps, and Mr. Prellwitz — the serious art student was given the opportunity to establish his own technique of art through analysis of both the masters' and his classmates' works. After a study of the techniques and interpretations of other artists in a particular area as a class, each student experimented for himself. His goal was to communicate effectively what he felt and wished to express. Projects were carefully designed to encourage creativity. Informal art rooms, equipped with everything from water colors to potters' wheels, provided on atmosphere both reloxing and inspirational. These results were on display in the foyer, on bulletin boards, and in classrooms. Aided by these factors many students produced serious works of art of high quality. Music students have been given ample opportunity and encouragement to express their creativity. Students taking Harmony studied music theory and progressed from writing Harmony to composing their own music. The Bands, Choirs, and Orchestra offered both classic cal and contemporary music. Those interested in classical formed small Chomber Music ensembles playing both for their own enjoyment and at the District and State Music Contests. The Cafe Orchestra, Swing Bond, Boys' Quartet and Girls' Sextette entertained at many school functions with their popular music. The one hour per day rehearsals were supplemented with weekly sectionals. Many students also studied privately. The dedication of the instructors, plus excellent facilities, high-quality music and frequency of performances all combined to provide many rewording experiences for music students. 25 WELL-ROUNDED NOTES FROM VERTICAL INSTRUMENTS ARE DIFFICULT.
