TRACING THE COURSE OF CIVILIZATION fHE SOCIAL STUDIES Department sought to expand the students' understanding of ancient and current events beyond textbook opinions and definitions. It was their aim to show the relationships and often disturbing similarities between ancient and current events. After a curriculum of World History, American History, Government, and a selected course in either Sociology or World Problems, the student had the basis for just such an educated appreciation. As 1964 was an election year, discussions of issues and candidates were commonly heard. Following a heated campaign a mock election wos held in which Hopkins students elected Lyndon Johnson President by a 3-1 ratio. The intriguing study of the Communist mind and system was once again offered to the senior Government classes. But for the first time this year a similar study wos made available to all interested adults in the Hopkins oreo. MR.
