MR. DONALD COPP1NS, PRINCIPAL Of HOPKINS HIGH SCHOOL YOUNG CHIEFS PERFORM LIKE OLD SMOOTHIES mR. COPPINS, the principal, and Mr. Ojala and Mr. Roof, assistant principals, compose the leadership community of Hopkins High. As head of over one-hundred foculty members, Mr. Cop-pins has provided vigorous ond esteemed leadership for them. In addition, this year he directly or indirectly dealt with the future of every student at Hopkins High. Mr. Ojala and Mr. Roof were more directly concerned with the students, both of them handling discipline and attendance problems, with Mr. Ojala also being in charge of scheduling. The sincere dedication of these men to their work and the Hopkins High students has produced a better high school and community. 15

COUNSELORS SHAPE IMPORTANT FUTURES (THE GOAL of the counseling deportment was to help develop the potential and personality of every student. Developing 1900 students caused it to be the busiest and most energetic of oil the departments. Each counselor worked with over 300 students. This work included planning schedules, discussing personal problems, arranging schedule changes, and planning students' post-high school studies or careers. The counselors also administered numerous tests, including DAT to sophomores and seniors, Trigg Reading Test to sophomores, MSAT to juniors, and ACT and CEEB to juniors and seniors. They wrote many college recommendations, a time consuming job, and kept up-to-date information on hundreds of colleges ond arranged appointments for many college representatives.
