As sophomores and juniors the girls are trained in a well-equipped kitchen. The kitchen has many uses— testing, tasting, and demonstrating. The girls are also taught the essentials of fine serving and the importance of good grooming. Senior girls are offered a special course called Home and Family Living. This course includes cooking, serving. knitting, budget and time management. The highlight of the year is a nursery school training unit. MRS. DOROTHY PHELPS. Art I. II. III. Art Club . . . MR. JOHN PREU-WITZ. Art I. II. Ill, War-r'tor Co-ordinator. TEMPRA AND TOIL The Art Department at Hopkins had one purpose: to stimulate individual creativity in students. This purpose was approached in two different ways by each of our art teachers. Mrs. Phelps' classes studied art through specific but varied assignments. On the other hand. Mr. Prel'wih' students followed a spontaneous approach to art as they created individual art projects. Field trips to Walker Art Center and The Minneapolis Institute of Arts have been a worthwhile part of art education. 24
