Here students are given the opportunity to express their musical ability, individually and as o group. Two art rooms are now being used by the art department. EXPANDING THE SOCIAL VIEW The HOPKINS HIGH SCHOOL SOCIAL STUDIES DEPARTMENT is one of the most important. Three of its offered courses ore required of every Hopkins students world history, American history and modern problems. Hopkins offers, in addition to these, three other courses in this field: applied geography,- eastern civilization, tho only semester course in tho department; ond a new course, advanced placement American history. In world history students study the political and cultural development of nations from tho beginning of history to the present day. American history covers the development of our country, our government, and our people. In modern problems Seniors study and discuss current social, economic ond political problems so thot they moy be better oriented citizons. Applied geogrophy gives the student the opportunity to study climate, economic ond political geogrophy so that he moy have the background necessory to interpret current affairs. Eastern civilization includes the historical and contemporary study of three areas: Russia, the Middle East, and the Far East.
