ON THE JOB LEARNING FOR THE DEMANDS OF TOMORROW T HE HOPKINS HIGH Home Economics deportment is important, for here girls learn the fundamentals of cooking, sowing, housekeeping and many other things that go into moking the students competent homemakers of tomorrow. They have well equipped kitchens and sewing labs in which to learn. Home Economics is an elective for Freshman through Seniors. Senior girls may also elect home and family living, which prepares them for marriage and family life. The industrial arts department covers a broad area. The department is divided into Five aroas: woodworking, metals, auto shop, electricity, and the graphic arts. The classes combine for certain projects to give the students the opportunity to see all the steps in the manufacture of a certain product. Here, as in the home economics department, the boys hove some of the best material and equipment available. This makes our vocational departments among the best in the state. DELVING IN FIGURES AND SCIENCE T HE STUDENTS OF HOPKINS HIGH SCHOOL or© fortunate to have at their disposal the use of excellent mathematics and science departments. The curriculum in these departments covers all the basic and advanced high school courses. Biology, geometry, olementary and advanced algebra, practical math, chemistry, physics, solid geometry and trigonometry, practical scienco, and physical science contribute to making the course of study complete. The equipment available in these departments is of high quality and complete. This adds to fho educational benefits by allowing the teachers to illustrate by examples. The teachers, in our moth and science departments are capable, qualified people who are respected by students, associates, and the community for the excellent job they are doing. All these factors contribute to making our mathematics and science deportments rank among the best. 25

PHYSICAL EDUCATION FOR SKILL AND FUN Our LEADERS AND EDUCATORS todoy have realized the need for physically Fit youth. The Hopkins High physical education department is dedicated to the accomplishment of such physical Fitness. Physical education, or phy ed., os it is affectionately termed, is required of oil students in grades seven through ten. It is elective in grades eleven and twelve. The gym program includes both indoor and outdoor sports and individual and team competition. These activities not only develop the body but also teach cooperation and a sense of fair play. Our excellent facilities Include a large swimming pool; an extensive gym, which can be divided for classes,- an lorge area for competitive sport practice and outdoor physical education classes; and an impressive inventory of equipment for all phases of athletics.
