Librory Assist- brary Assistant, ont. 20 FUNDAMENTAL SKILLS FOR COMMUNICATION E VERYBODY NOW REALIZES the value of foreign languages, as well as the importance of reading, writing, and speaking. Here at Hopkins we are fortunate in having an excellent language arts department. Four languages ore offered: French, German, Spanish, and Latin. Any of these languages may be taken for a third or fourth year if enough students request the course. Our English courses cover grammar,- a background in world, American and English literature,- and effective communication of ideas. Two comparatively new courses are the survey of world literaturo ond college composition. The former is a further and more detoiled study of the great classics and novels. The latter is primarily for college bound students and teaches theme fundamentals. Of course, one must not forget tho speech ond debate deportments which do so much to make us more at ease in public speaking.

N EW AT HOPKINS SENIOR HIGH this year are Mr D. R. Copplns, principal, and Mr. M. H. Ojala, assistant principal. Mr. Coppins, a familiar figure from the junior high school, is involved in many jobs and activities. Mr. Ojala came from Buffalo, Minnesota, and through his many jobs, is a very familiar figure In the halls. Our counselors, too, carry out an important function of the office. Mr. Benson, sophomore adviser; Miss Prussing, junior adviser; and Mr. Tufvandor, senior advisor aro available at all times and hove ready advice -to give when called upon to do so.
