In May, Michele Clark won the first place trophy for dramatic interpretation at Rancocas Valley. Pam Silver displays the third place trophy won for her poetry reading at the N. J. Forensic League Tournament in December at Red Bank. 23 Forensic Hosts Annual Debate Day, Enters Tourneys FORENSIC DEBATE Combining the Varsity and Junior Varsity teams, Central's eight debat- ers gained valuable experience in local and state tournaments. Debaters represented the school at the State Debate Tournament held April 24. Ho- Val hosted schools at the annual Debate Day March 18. FORENSIC DRAMA On December 12 the drama section of Forensic competed at the New jersey Forensic League Tournament held in Red Bank, N.I. Ho-Val's dramatists participated in the areas of humorous and dramatic interpreta- tion, original oratory, and extemporaneous speaking at the District Tournament on March 13 at Notre Dame High School. At one of the Monday evening meetings, summer exchange student Tom Deer- ing tells AFS members of his travels through Italy. After proofreading the final copy to be sent to the printer, staff members count headlines and arrange layouts for an upcoming issue of CENTRALIA. 25 Ho- al Welcomes Ilka deSouza From Brazil AFS Eighteen AFS students from all over the state attended the annual AFS Dinner in April as guests of Central students. During the school day they visited classes where they discussed and answered questions about their home lands. At the january 9 Sock Hop, AFS surprised its guest from Brazil, Ilka deSouza, with a birthday party and presented her with a transistor radio. CENTRALIA Open to the entire school, CENTRALIA provided opportunity for students to learn basic principles of newswriting and lay- outs. A change to smaller size pages made it eas- ier to read the many informative and entertaining articles. IABBERWOCK Spending the first semester selecting material submitted by the student body, the IABBERWOCK staff published its 1971 issue in the spring. Central's literary magazine fea- tured poems and short stories displaying the hid- den creativity of poets and authors from all four classes.
