Her career in teaching has spanned fifteen years and we have been privileged that she has spent the last five at Hopewell-Loudon teaching English and literature. Her energy and cheerful manner are appreciated by students and faculty members alike. However. many times her concern has extended beyond the class- room. She has spent many hours before and after school helping students academically as well as providing moral support. Student involvement is also important to Mrs. Weeks as she is currently in her second year advising Student Council. This year she also served as a staff counselor, acquainting new teachers to school procedures. Mrs. Weeks, we wish you many more successful years at Hopewell- Loudon. . Through class participation, the seniors learned how to plan and finance a wedding and reception. Each couple had a traditional wedding but made up their own vows. Everyone had fun as they watched Tina Hoffman be- come Mrs. Robert Yambert. Sherrie Hoover become Mrs. Eric Netzel and Ruth Hites become Mrs. An- drew Clouse. A f-:, 1 fa X. QUEEN REIGNS OVER DE DLQCK - 4 it A 1 Senior Karen Strausbaugh of Senior Lisa Miller Junior Caroline Kuhn Queen Nan Sauber l98I Homecoming Queen Nan Sauber reigned over a contest between the Chieftains and the Tigers of Seneca East that ended in a 7-7 deadlock. The Chieftains were first to score when quarterback Jeff Craft tossed one to Tom Bauer for six. Brian Ream's precise one-point con- version made the score 7-0. After a score by the Tigers. the game was a hard and long fight to the finish. Giving the fans a different kind of entertainment, at halftime, were the combined talents of the Marching Chieftains and the Marching Tigers. The combination gave a fantastic show enjoyed by the enthusiastic fans. After the game the students enjoyed the traditional Homecoming Dance where Queen Nan and her court were honored and the spirit-winning seniors ruled. Music for the evening was supplied by J. B. Sound. As always, the Student Council was responsible for the organization and planning of Spirit Week and all the Homecoming festivities. Certainly, a job well done. Library Assistants IO3 Putting Together The Best Yearbook Possible Each year the Annual Staff sets a goal to make the yearbook better than it was the year before. There is always the chal- lenge to improve the book and, on the contrary, a fear of repeating ourselves. However, each year there are always new members who have new ideas. Some- times these ideas are difficult to incorpo- rate. but serve to liven and often improve the book. Experience is also essential to avoid making costly mistakes. The yearbook is something to be proud of. Each member experiences unequalled joy upon seeing the pages they designed. A F. '3 1 F is 1 A. Cover Mr. and Mrs. Louis H. Nye '35 Year In A SYNOPSIS OF THE YEAR This year was very successful. We met all our deadlines and raised almost 55.000 worth of ads, which enabled us to continue with our color pages and also improve the coverage in the yearbook. However, one cannot have a good year- book, no matter how large, without hav- ing creative and dedicated people to de- sign the pages and write stories and cap- tions. This year we met those qualifica- tions. Putting together a good yearbook takes time: often this meant staying after school every night of the week and, at times, on Saturdays. Nevertheless. in the fall, when the finished books arrive and we look at the pages we individually de- signed: the sense of pride and satisfac- tion more than compensates for the mi- nor inconveniences of the year before. Before we say good-bye to another year at H-L, we would like to thank the following people: Dick Thatcher - our Josten's representative: Mrs. Fansler. who helped us sell ads, proof read. and gave us invaluable advice: Mr. Hawk and Mr. Finley for developing pictures for us in our time of need: Mrs. Harris. Ed Gaietto. and Janet Lowery for drawing up art work for us: Mrs. Poignon, Ms. Baum. and Mrs. Weeks for helping us with our grammar and proof reading: Mrs. Smith for putting up with our use of the Home Ec. room: Irene and Alana for cleaning around us and all the little extras: and all coaches and activity advisors for writing summaries of their activities. Sincerely. The i982 Scarlet 5 Gray Staff al' fxa'
