Class Motto: Character Is the Cornerstone of access Class Colors : Light and Dark Green Class Flower: Daisy Class History Each senior in the Class of 1973 has many memories of the years they have at Hopewell-Loudon School. Memories that will never be forgotten and treasured for most of their life. Let's recall some memories everyone will want to share. ln the fall of 1960, 54 students met for the first time in Kindergarten with Mrs. Merton as the teacher. Everyone had fun playing with the many toys in Kindergarten, but it soon came time for them to advance into the first grade. Some students came and you gained some friends, other students left and you lost your friends. So it is time to really study and learn to the best of your ability with Mrs. Reiss and Mrs. Zepernick teaching us. When it seemed that we had found out what first grade was all about, it was time for the next grade, second. Many things were taught and our brains were working overtime. Despite all the fun we had ma king candy and at recess, a tragedy occurred one day. We lost our first classmate, Sheila Hoffman. Third grade flew by and in no time at all we found ourselves in the fourth grade classrooms with Mrs. Knepper and Mrs, Dewald teaching. We took our first field trips to the Tiffin Public Library and Seneca County Museum. The fifth grade must have been a rough year because one section went through three teachers. Mrs. Bauders taught one section and Mr. Brooka started to teach the other section. When Mr. Brooka left, Mr. Rainey became our teacher. The students were just getting used to him, when he left and Mrs. Livingston came and finished the rest of the year. Now we only had one year left of elementary school, sixth grade. Another tragedy is in our mind as Dennis Lowery is remembered. Now looking forward to junior high with us changing classes for the first time and different teachers, no one could wait for school to begin after vacation. Leading the Class of 1973 in seventh grade were President, Mark Gonsg Vice-President, Darrell Haughp Secretary, Gary' Holman: and Treasurer, Roger Coppus. A field trip was taken to the Capitol Building in Columbus. The junior high cheerleaders that year from our class were Linda McLaughlin, Deb Spero, and Bonnie Sperow. During the summer after seventh grade, we lost another classmate, Trey Audritsh. In eighth grade everything was pretty much the same. Crystal Buchholtz, Susan Coppus, and Deb Spero were the cheerleaders from our class. The Freshman year finally arrived. We gained a few more students and new friends were being made again. We sponsored our first dance, a Valentine's Day Dance and everyone had a good time. Linda McLaughlin was President, with Deb Spero as Vice-President, Mary Hammer as Secretary, and Mark Gons as Treasurer. The Sophomore year brings memories of selling popcorn at the basketball games. We received our class rings after deciding what style we wanted. Class officers were Susan Coppus, President: Deb Spero, Vice-Presidentp Joan Kieffer, Secretary, and Jenny Uhlenhake, Treasurer. The leaders of our Junior year were President, David Plattp Jenny Uhlenhake, Vice-President: Kathi King, Secretary: and Elaine Hoover, Treasurer. We had a busy year raising money for our prom. ln October we sponsored a Halloween Party where everyone came in his best disguise. A Bike Raffle was held. Finally the biggest event of the year arrived May 13,1972--the Junior-Senior Prom entitled Springtime in My Heart with music by Jim Wise's Orchestra. This night was a very memorable one for everyone who attended. No one believed it was going to ever come, but it did. We were in the last year at Hopewell-Loudon. Deb Spero accepted the job of being our class President, with Joan Kieffer as Vice-President, Bonnie Spero as Secretary, and Cheryl Hoerig as Treasurer. At Christmas time, Christmas cards were sold by some of the seniors. Editors of the annual staff were Kathi King and Phyllis Eickhoff. Jenny Uhlenhake headed the Student Council as president and Kevin Zepernick served as vice-president. Our class presented UP THE DOWN STAIRCASE dramatized by Christopher Sergel, the book written by Bel Kaufman on March 16, 1973. Mrs. June Erhlichman directed the play, with Jenny Uhlenhake assisting. Leading roles were played by Roxann Dewald, Darrell Haugh, and Ron Reinhart, Bruce Brown and Phyllis Eickhoff. lt's all over, we have received our diplomas. But in reality, is it all over? We are going to have to face the world with its problems. We could change it, if we try, because now everything is in our own hands. Our future depends on us. By Mary Hammer W! The first football team at Hopewell-Loudon was a total suc- cess, in the eyes of the athletic department. The 1972 Chief- tain football team was built around one senior, five juniors, and 23 sophomores and freshmen. With practice beginning in early September, the year culmin- ated with an intra-squad scrimmage on Saturday, October 14. The Chieftains, next year, will field a varsity football team at with a schedule of nine games. The near future forecasts a new stadium and then possibly a championship. COACHES: lVlr. Varsity Club The Varsity Club is in its first year at H-L and was started to recognize the outstanding athletes who have lettered in any sport. These boys have regular meetings to develop interests in community service, money-making projects, dances, hay rides, and athletic field trips. To join, one must have lettered in a sport, achieve success in the class room, and attend regular meetings of the club. As a money-making project this year, red H-L jackets were sold by the members, they are also planning several social activities this spring. A thletic Boosters lVlark's good for another two. lVIr.
