Through the grade school years, our class number increased and decreased, In the years of 1951 and 1952, we elected our cheerleaders for the junior high basketball team. In September of 1953, we entered our freshman year, We chose our class colors, green and whiteg our flower, white orchid: and our motto, Today we launch: where shall we anchor ? The class officers for that year were: President, David Dundoreg Vice-President, Tom Eberlyg Secretary, Lorene King, Treasurer, Holly Creegerg Reporter, Susan Bushong. The most joyful part of our freshman year was our first prom, In 1954, the following class officers were chosen: President, David Dundoreg Vice-President, Darylene Wertzg Secretary, Holly Creegerp Treasurer, Tom Eberlyg Reporter, Holly Creeger. In the month of May we had our Freshman-Sophomore Prom which turned out to be a big success. In 1955, we entered our.Tunior year with high hopes. In that year, we were in many activities. Our class play, Bolts and Nuts, was a very big success. We also put out the Scarlet Banner. We held our Junior Prom on.May 13, at Hopewell-Loudon. Our class officers were: Pres- ident, Duane Warns: Vice-President, Tom Eberlyg Secretary, David Dundoreg Treasurer, Joe Vera: Reporter, Darylene wertz, As Seniors, we have a great responsibility to our commtmity and also Hopewell-Loudon. We are very proudtobe graduated from sucha fine schooL The biggest events of our Senior year were the Junior-Senior Prom, May 4, and our trip to Washington and New York. Our class officers for our Senior year were: President, Tom Eberlyg Vice-President, Duane Warns, Treasurer, Susan Bushongg Secretary, Joe Verag Reporter, Darylene Wertz. We, the Seniors of 1957, have many opporttmities ahead for the future. We hope that the years we spent at Hopewell-Loudon School have taught us how to be good citizens for our coming years. 5 23 ,S elllass f 1957 rophec On our tour around the World in 1970 we ran into Tom Eberly and his wifefwillettaj and their four children in Africa where Tom is a general in the Army. And, to our amazement out from the jungle stepped J' ack Pachlhofer who is a big game hunter in the jungles of Africa. We then had to depart for England where we ran into Darylene Wertz who is studying for her masters' degree at Cambridge and who is planning to marry the music professor, Robert Pachlhofer, next week. We then boarded a plane to Russia where J' oe Vera, our ambassador, was hard at work planning for the final peace treaty. It was time for our departure home and as we passed through Hawaii we saw Margo Karcher teaching the American G.I.'s the Hawaiian war chant, As we arrived in California we looked be- low and who should we see but David Palmer taking his ducks for a swim in the Pacific Ocean. Then, to our surprise we were back in the United States. As we walked through Hollywood we saw flashing sigis on the Paramont announcing .Tim Burns's new movie, The Technique of Farming with Girls, under the production of I-lollywood's astonishing new producer, Marvin Amlin, our old classmate. Then we thought we would take a short trip to Texas to visit the Tera Bon Ranch owned and operated by Bonnie Schroeder and Theresa Schreiner. It was time to leave for home but we had some business to do in Chicago and thus had time to visit Duane Warns's Never-Miss Professional Basketball Team starring Charles Kiserg and guess who their water boy was! Mark Walter. Now we hurried home and as we were arriving in Tiffin, a big truck cut us off the road. Looking around we saw that it was Rex Hall and his milk truck with his new assistant Larry Earl. We were quite tired and glad to return home, thirsty for a good drink of water: but when we turned on the water nothing came out so we called our very efficient plumber, Jim Sauber. He told us that Wayne Griffin has his own farm of 520 acres. He also said that David Dundore has in- creased his family 'by one which makes number six, That night as we read the newspaper, catching -up on all the news, we discovered that Judy Park had invented the new hair style, slim and trim. As we read further we saw where Susan Bushong had discovered how to make a jiffy donut, Since you know what all our classmates are doing we thought we might as well reveal our secret which has been concealed since our Senior year. We have been engaged since then and propose to be married: that is, if we can give up our Cadillacs and minks. After Thompson dampened our hopes we bounced back to win our next seven league games. This year marked the last time four men will play for the Scarlet and Gray. Duane Warns, a three year letterman, was our leading scorer and also did a great job of rebounding and feeding, Our two little men, .T im Burns and Rex Hall, played superb defensive ball and gave us many scores when we needed them. Our other senior, Jack Pachlhofer, played the role of relieving our two Pivot men and added much to the team. In my opinion this squad was a great team, They played many big ball games and always came out on top. Duane Warns should go down as one of the finest players this school has produced and that I will ever have the privilege of working with, He was the scorer but he was also the spark to which the other players reacted. This squad won respect wherever they played for their ability. desire, and sportsmanship. They'1lmakefineyoung men if they continue to live their lives the way they played basketball: Fairly, and with all the strength they have. Coach Harry Groman 56 QQ an Qs M if L Q, Q f A ,:5. DUANE WARNS Forward 6- 1 D u a n e was awarded the Jack Hoffman Memorial Sports- manship Trophy the past year. Duane was the backbone ofthe team. He was our lead- ing scorer and one of the top three in rebounds. He pos- sessed a great touch on his shots and tremendous reflexes. Replacing Duane next year will be a very tough job. Who will ever take his place! 58 JIM BURNS Guard 5-9 Jim was one of this year's spark- plugs. He was a great defensive player -and feeder. He seemed to play his best ball under pressure. Next year's team will really miss Jim. I IM SHILEY Guard 5- 10 Jim has tremendous speed. He is aggressive, dependable and a good shot. He is developing into a fine ball player. The squad has good average height, good offensive and defensive punch and a great desire to improve and work for the future.
