We know some day Dick will be a great chemist. 1956 Class History We, the members of the Senior Class, who entered the Hopewell-Loudon School in the year of '44, have spent twelve of our happiest years of friendship together. During our first six years, we learned the first steps in a good education. While in grade school many of the members began taking music lessons to qualify for member- ship in band and orchestra. In Junior High we participated in cheerleading, basketball, band and glee club to be better qualified for our years to come. We were happy to enter High School as Freshmen. Officers were elected: President, Rose Mary Smith, Vice President, Paul DeWaldg Secretary, Patricia Gasterg Treasurer, Carol Jean Strengg Reporter, Trulene Fruth. We chose our class motto, Today We Fol- low, Tomorrow We Lead. Our class colors are blue and white, and the White Tea Rose is our class flower. As Sophomores, the following class officers were elected: President, Richard Scaife, Vice President, Trulene Fruthg Secretary, Carol Jean Streng, Treasurer, Patricia Gasterg Reporter, Alma Breidenbach. Our big event was the Freshmen-Sophomore Prom. Our Junior year was very busy and exciting. We were busy publishing the Scarlet Banner throughout the year. Our exciting moments were presenting the Junior Class Play, The Perfect Idiot, and most exciting, the Junior-Senior Prom. Now as Seniors, we can be proud of what we put forth to make Hopewell-Loudon such a great school. We feel this book will be remembered as part of the school's life his- tory. We are fortunate to be able to say We are graduates of Hopewell-Loudon School. mv., 1956 Class Prophesy I, Donna Steinmetz, as a famous hillbilly singer on The Grand Ole Opra, in Nashville, Tennessee, have been doing a great deal of traveling these days putting on shows. One afternoon I boarded a plane for New York where my next appearance was to be on the Eddy Arnold Show. This was, by the way, my first trip to New York. It was quite lonesome when I first arrived there, so I decided to go shopping. As I entered this one store, a voice was shouting, Hurry! Hurry! Big bargain, lose twenty pounds in one week. People were pushing and running every which way. When the people finally cleared away I decided to go back and see what the big bargain was. To my surprise, there was my former classmate, Sue Comer, demonstrating and selling Wate Off. Sue told me she was Head Manager of Murphy's 5 8a 10 cent Stores in New York and almost a millionaire. So this is Sue's slogan, If you want to make a million, go to Murphy's. As it was lunch time now, I went to a restaurant across the street from Mi.u'phy's called, HOFFY'S TAVERN. When I walked in, some girl yelled, What'll you have? and told me to grab a seat. Later I learned that it was Alice Hoffman, the T. V. star, who was awarded top comedian on the HOFFY'S TAV- ERN SHOW. As I was leaving HOFFY'S TAVERN, the surprise of my life came when I bumped into my classmate, Carol Jean Streng. This was our first meeting in ten years. She told me she was secretary for the Hoffy's Tavern Show and appreciated working for such a great comedian. It was about time for my appearance on the Eddy Arnold Show, I invited Carol Jean to be my guest in the audience. Afterwards Carol Jean said she enjoyed the show very much and asked me to see the city with her. As we were enjoying the beautiful scenery, I asked Carol if she knew anything about our classmates. I was simply astonished when Carol told me that Carl Painter was a Toni Model on the Arthur Godfrey program. We sure hope Carl won't be fired. Carol informed me that Mr. and Mrs. Paul DeWald built a new home in New York. Paul is the coach for the Globe Trotters and his wife Cformer Patricia Gasterl is very busy caring for their five children. What an exciting life it must be. I had to leave New York the next day to go to California for several shows. I thanked. Carol Jean for the wonderful time and wished her good luck as a secretary. When I entered the train, the porter asked for my ticket and showed me to a comfortable seat. He in- troduced himself as Ronald Bogner, and I asked fora paper to read. I then introduced myself, and is wasn't until then that we realized we had gone to school together ten years ago. I asked Ronald if he ever heard anything of Tom King. He handed me the paper with excitement, and the headlines read, TOM KING, NEW 1965 CHAMPION OF THE INDIANAPOLIS SPEED WAY. The paper also said Tom was President of The Ohio Hotrod Association. The train made its first stop in St. Louis, Missouri. When I went into a little cafe to get a bite to eat I saw my girl friend, Rose Mary Smith. She didn't notice me until I was about to leave. Rosie told me she was attending Kroger's Convention for a week to learn more about Top Value Stamps. I went back to the train and continued reading the paper. Another big headline read, BY CRACKIE, LATEST INVENTION, this seemed very interesting so I continued to read on and found out it was by a boy in my class. Richard Scaife had invented a new type of fire cracker called BY CRACKIE. It was the most powerful of its kind, by crackie. It was early in the afternoon when I arrived in Hollywood, California, and decided to go to a studio where I heard a former classmate worked. Sure enough, there was Joanne Haugh, a famous comic writer for Tarzan. It was certainly a thrill to meet an old friend again. Joanne informed me that another friend, Willetta Burt, has been making a big splash in Hollywood. Willetta is very busy taking Liberace's place in a movie called, TOO HEAVY TO HOLD THE GUN. And more exciting, Willetta has just recently become Mrs. Tom Eberly. Joanne said she had recently received a letter from Richard Dundore, saying he just signed a five year contract as director of the Firestone Orchestra. I had to say good-by to Joanne for it was time for me to appear on the Gene Autry Show, and then say good-by to California. The show was over and I boarded a plane back to my home town of Tiffin, Ohio. As I reached,the Tiffin Airport, two of my sweetest friends were there to meet me: Virginia Feindel and Marilyn Schreiner, public health nurses of Seneca Co. They told me of their discovery, a new kind of pill for school children, called PEP-ER-UP-ER, and their traveling salesman for the PEP-ER-UP-ER Company is Dean Hoffman. Marilyn told me that some of our friends were in the medical profession in Bascom. It looks like Bascom is a big city by now. Virginia said Gerald Lowery is a Dentist and Paul Rinebold, a foot doctor. The nurses mentioned that both doctors are recommended by most people. There is a new building for furs in Tiffin, owned by John Droll. I ordered my new fur coat from John and he told me he was Head Manager of WILLMAN'S RABBIT RANCH. I'll be leaving for Nashville in a couple of days and I want to say to all my classmates, that this has been the most enjoyable trip I have ever taken. I, Patricia Gaster, will my seat in the senior class to Jack Pachlhofer and my ability to get along with teachers to Joe Vera, but will keep my interest on Route 18 for future use. Jim didn't score a large number of points but was fast and aggressive. Next your Jim should really excel. He out-rebounded some of the biggest men in the league, Paul had a good jump shot and will really be missed next year. DAVID DUNDORE J tmior--Forward Dave was always a fight- er. His rebounding and his odd jump shot kept the op- ponents guessing.'Dave has gained experience and will be an asset to next year's team. I1 DEAN HOFFMAN S enior-Forward Dean saw a lot of action. Dean had some bad luck at the beginning of the year. He came back and did a very good job the rest of the year. Dean had a good hook shot and a good jump shot.
