I believe the class of i953 is well o'n its way toward obtain- ing this. We know this could not have been done with- out the training received in the home, the church, the school and the self discipline they, themselves have administered. I, therefore, take this opportun- ity to congratulate this class, their parents, their church leaders, their teachers, and their friends for this accomplishment and sincerely hope that this ability will continue with them and make their out of school life a happy and successful one. -we-nn-nil li Mx ,X Xs I ug G--ff-ll! Every year the cam- paign goes over iust a little bigger. To bring about more competition among the students we divided the school into teams. With television so popular in the homes these days we used that as our theme. The winning team, which was the boys, was headed by Bob Burt as Groucho Marx. The girls team was headed by Marilyn Walter' as Sophie Tucker as guest on the Ed Sullivci' Show. lt was agreed that the 20 high sales- man onthe winning team would appear on the Groucho Show andthelosem woum puton a variety Show on Toast of the Town. Vtle don't know whether it was the idea or' lust what it was but the campaign was a big success. The total receipts were over S2,200. It was a lot of fun and we did make money fo the school. Hopewell-Loudon Chorus This year, there were sixty members in our chorus. As usual, we sang for the P. T. A. Christ- mas program. Again the chorus went caroling at Fostoria and Tiffin hospitals. On January 8, l954, our chorus had the privilege to sing for a choral clinic at Heidelberg College. Dr. Wilson, of Columbia University, was guest conductor. We also worked on an Easter Contata, The Seven Last Words of Christ by Dubois, which we presented in several county schools. We closed the year by singing at the Baccalaur- eate services. A big gap had to be filled as graduation took its toll. The sea- son looked very dismal as the squad lost four of thc first five games. But with added experience and con- fidence along with a strong desire to win, the squad then had a nine game winning streak before it was broken. 34 The season ended with a T2 won 6 lost record and with a tie for 3rd place in the league, which is a credit to the squad for its fine co-operation and sports- manship which it displayed throughout the season. With only one member of the squad lost by graduation the hopes for next season look very high. The members of the squad and myself would like to thank the administration, faculty, and cheerleaders for their fine co-operation and support which made this season a successful one. Ronnie Gosche Marilyn Brickner The Annual Staff has worked hard to produce this book, but we have gained much experience in working together. We hope this book will bring back happy memories A Look Into the Future I, Marilyn Brickner, and my TV partner, Elsie Hudson, had iust finish- ed our show, Clem and his Boss and were loafing around the studio when we ran across this interesting item in The Bascom Bleat : First Lady Champion Wrestler In History. This sounded interesting, we read on only to find that the champion was Susie Painter. The paper is edited by Marlyn Fruth, who heads one of the largest newspaper syndicates in the world. She has also won the Nobel Prize for her Yellow Journalism. Since our work for the evening was finished we decided to take in the floor show at the High Hat Club . lEverybody entering this club must wear a high hat.l The club is running a series of mystery singers and every- body is anxious to see who she will be tonight. The gossip columns of The Bascom Bleat are all running articles on it. Donna McCrary, who is the head of all the columns, therefore, knows the latest in the gossip world. Why iust the other day she was telling of Roy Lowery who has iust invented a new formula for exterminating termites. His secretary, Marilyn Walter, owns a termite farm where Roy does his experimenting. lPersonally, we think they're kinda buggy.l We hear that Donna's most reliable source of information is the operator at the Bell Telephone Company who is none other than Evelyn Young. By this time we were dressed and outside our hotel. We hailed a taxi and after we were inside we noticed an extra passenger in the front seat. We paid no attention and continued our conversation. Suddenly we heard a disturbance in the front seat. It wasn't until then that we noticed the shabbily dressed driver and the neatly dressed lady on the seat beside him. The driver was Joe Bouillon, president of the Joke Factory of Bouillon- ville, who told us he was driving a taxi on the side to make a little extra money , The lady, to our surprise, was Mariorie Cassidy the Driver Train- ing Teacher of the Fordville Elementary School. lt seems Marge was trying to point out to Joe why driving carefully is important. Marge informed us that only the other day she had seen Ray Shoemaker, the famous horse- dentist of a one-horse-town. His nurse, Nancy Manz, had discovered Eqqui- chloryall, toothpaste for toothless horses. Any cow using this will give green milk. I exclaimed to Elsie how unbelievable it was that our classmates were becoming more famous day by day. Upon our arrival at the High Hat Club we left the cab and entered the club. We were greeted by the proprietor, whom we didn't recognize at first with his mustache. While we were talking, however, it fell off. That was when we recognized him to be Ronnie Gosche. We had a good laugh but gave our word not to tell about the falsie. Ronnie led us to our table and seated us. The waiter came and we ordered the latest in breakfast food which to our surprise was Bob Burt's latest product: Bobby's Blue Breakfast Belly-Busters Food , the new blue cereal with the Bromo-Seltzer already in it. We hear that Mary the Mor- tician gets a lot of business from Bobby's victims. The mortician is our for- mer classmate, Mary Kelbley. Her work consists of looking for members for the underground. At the next table we noticed John Schlenker, the fire-eater, with the editor of the Advice to the Lovelorn column of The Bascom Bleat , Vir- ginia Green. lt seems that John was getting advice from Viginia about his latest flame. He attracts the attention of surrounding tables when he begins to demonstrate his latest act of fire-eating. The bouncer immediate- ly springs into action, and out goes John. Who is the bouncer? You guess- ed it! Harold Pember. As things were under control once more, the house lights dimmed and the mystery singer came out on the stage. lt was the exciting moment of the unmasking. Everyone held his breath. Then it happened. Imagine our surprise. Yes, Theresa Burns had risen high in the music world. Finally we said our goodbyes and returned to our hotel. lt had been an exciting day and we retired with happy memories.
