The H-L quintet suffered their third setback when Old Fort took the long end of the score, 31-24. Traveling to New Riegel, the Chieftains were beaten to the tune of 32-21. Getting the third quarter jitters , the Chieftains dropped a thrilling game to Bettsville with a 51-46 score. On Ianuary 26, the Chieftains treked to Iackson and were beaten in two overtime periods by the score of 32-30. Traveling to Old Fort on December 29, the Chieftains were beaten by a score of 47-39. Winning their second game of the year, the Chieftains defeated Thompson 42-21. Picking up their third victory, the H-L quintet moved in to defeat the Fostoria Reserves with a score of 42-22. Visiting Salem on February 9, the Chieftains dropped a hard fought game with a 34-32 score. Avenging their earlier defeat, the I-1-L quintet beat lackson- Liberty with a four point margin, 43-39. After playing Iackson on a Friday night, the Chieftains played Bettsville on Saturday to lose 37-31. ff, 27' f . X K g X 91' 1 7 Entering the Seneca County Tournament the Chieftains drew Republic, they spanked them with a 48-24 score. Playing the second game of the tourn- ament with Bloomville, the winners of fourteen straight, the I-I-L quintet up- set them, 45-34. Now playing Bettsville in the semi-finals the Chieftains were defeated, 45-34. Playing their last game of the season, the Chieftains were beaten in the consolation game by New Riegel, 5l-38. This year the Hopewell-Loudon basketball team showed much improvement both offensively and defensively. The Chieftains outscored their opponents for the entire season with the score of 589 points to their opponents 574 points. This offensive record practically doubles the past seasons records. Hopewell- Loudon is improving rapidly and next year may find the best prospects of them all. Their tournament play was probably the best of the year, and showed that our team could play basketball. In another year we hope to win in the finals and go to the district finals. During the past year the band was enlarged from sixty to seventy pieces and reached outstanding musical maturity both in its concert and marching styles ot performance, Playing at fairs, basketball games, school programs, concerts and other varied educational and social activities, the band was hailed by an appreciative community as the best ever. Three new instruments, an oboe, alto clarinet and bass clarinet, were added to the band during the year, making a noticeable asset to the bands playing.
