'I'hese members are selected from the three townships as follows: Seven from Hopewell, and five each from Independence cmd Raccoon Townships. The Board carries out its duties of directing the activities, and setting forth the policies of the school district with the aid of its six committees. The committees which make the detail investigations' of all board business, are composed entirely of board members and are titled as follows: Building, Finance, Transportation, Athletic, Education, and Purchasing Committees. The staff is very active throughout the school district in administering physical and dental examinations, Tubercu- losis Patch Test and X-ray Clinics along with the Pre-School examinations. Matt Mezmar had a 2-l record, Nelson Nedde won one out of two, and Melvin Vidovich won in hif, lone start. George lvfaravich was the hitting star of the Viking nine, leading in hits, doubles, triples and home runs with a .452 average. They must be able to play three sports to qualify for membership in the GAA, This year there were three teams who played against each other. Thus they learned sports- manship and leadership and qualified for membership in the Leaders Club, composed ot Seniors and luniors. . U The membership ot the Varsity Club is made up of boys who have earned athletic letters. luniors or seniors actively participating in sports are also eligible for the club. Under the leadership ot Mr. Batchelor and officers Vucenich, Cook, Onderick, and Gibson, the organization has functioned very well. The boys strive to make money in order that every senior member may be presented a varsity sweater. Kostial. gfwn ow gm The Red Cross of Hopewell Memorial High School consists of senior high school students who give of their time and efforts in rendering such services as packing gift boxes for needy families in Europe and making tray favors for veterans at Aspinwall and Deshon Hos- pitals. The club also acts as a council for the Iunior High School Red Cross. Mrs. Powell is the sponsor of the club. The Library Club is a group of girls whose duty it is to care for the library, keeping it neat and in order. 'KMC' 6'-'16 The Aeronautics Club, a relatively new club which deals with the study of airplanes and various other adjacent fields of study, became the fancy of many airplane enthusiasts this year. Under the sponsorship of Mr. Kotun, the club made several field trips to nearby airports. Wliile on these field trips the mem- bers were entertained with free rides given in small planes. Several of the members also construct and fly model airplanes in competi- tion with each other and other clubs. The Craft Club is an organization composed of boys who have maintained at least a B average and have a genuine interest in wood- working and other shop activities. The Hi Litesf' our student news- paper is produced by students who are interested in journalism. ln order to secure funds they had bakesales, sponsored socials, and sold candy and refreshments at the basketball games. The articles consisted ot sports events, of incidents that occured durina classes, and news of various other activities.
