School OrganizationalHonors Miss Elizabeth Joyce Mitchell was selected at the Hi-Y, Tri-Hi-Y District Conference held in Hopewell as Secre¬ tary of the coming year’s conference. Dean Alfred Vonetes was also selected at this conference as Doorkeeper of the State Model General Assembly held in Richmond. The Hopewell Chapter of the National Honor Society chose Miss Nancy Weeks Rogers and Michael Dennis Cyckevic as Graduation Marshals for the graduating Class of 1964. The Executive Committee of the S.C.A. selected Dean Al¬ fred Vonetes to represent our school at the S.C.A. Sum¬ mer Workshop held at Radford College. Partina Janette Nicholson was selected by Hollins Colleg to receive a four year scholarship to attend school there. 23

cS choof ancf Community J c onors Michael Dennis Cyckevic and Miss Mary Etta Eyler were chosen as Outstanding Boy and Outstanding Girl of the Year 1964 by the Hopewell Optimist Club. Their selection was based on character, scholarship, leadership, and sports¬ manship. Miss Mary Nelson Glass and Miss Ellen Bland Gilliam were chosen to attend Girls’ State at Radford College dur¬ ing the summer. Their one week stay there was sponsored by the Women’s Auxiliary of the American Legion Post 80. In November, Mr. Frederick Woehr received the Veterans of Foreign Wars’ Outstanding Teacher Award for the city of Hopewell. Mr. Woehr teaches Mech. Drawing and Graphic Arts here at H.H.S., is head of the Industrial Arts Dept, and is director of the adult night school program. Michael Dennis Cyckevic and Nelford Shannon Nichols II were selected by the American Legion Post 80 to attend the American Legion Boys’ State held at the College of William and Mary. 22

During each year from 1915 to 1965, students at Hopewell High School have written down, taken pictures of, or just remembered those special events which to them become particularly happy memories of good times and friends.
