High School will receive their diplomas. We wish each and every one of them the best luck in the world. We hope that in ■spite of the present war conditions that manyof them will go on to college to further prepare themselves to take their places as citizens. Graduation from high school is a great event. It marks a change in the lives of most of the students. Whether they go on to college, go to work or enter the- armed forces. ,it means something of a break with the life they have known previously and the entering of wider fields. We hope that each and every one of this graduating - class will succeed. In a few years the boys and girls who- are now graduating from Hopewell High School and the thousands of other high school throughout these United States, will take their place as the lead¬ ers of our communities, states and na¬ tion. Upon them rests a responsibility to so train and conduct themselves that they will be worthy of this. When this war ' is over and we enter upon the task of reconstruction and of shaping a lasting peace, we will need citizenship as well as leadership of the highest type. As we look upon these young- people, who have been so resolute¬ ly preparing themselves in high school, we believe both the nation and’the world will be in capable hands. The all important matter of the mo¬ ment is, of course, the winning of the war. Those young men who are eighteen or over will soon be in the armed forces of their country, rendering the greatest service a citizen can give. Others will find places on the Home Front, where they will also render an important con¬ tribution to the war effort. ' But we really believe that it is just as important for as many of the class as I possible to go on to college. We must j keep up our standards of higher educa¬ tion as far as possible, and we must ! have trained and educated leaders in I the future. So we think those who do gb on to college will be rendering just as great a service to the country as those who actually go into the armed service, or who takes jobs on the home front. i So we hope that every boy who is not called to service and every girl who can see her way to do so, will make every effort to go on to college. It will not be easy in this war tom world. But it is important. And it is patriotic. ‘ These few days at the end of the school year belong to the graduates. To them belongs the honor and acclaim of our co m mun i ty. We know we bespeak the sentiments ' of the community in honor¬ ing them upon their successful comple¬ tion of their high school course, -which Will be solemnized next Tuesday night when they get their diplomas. ;■ In this connection The News is pleased to present with this issue a sixteen page tabloid supplement, devoted entirely to the Class of 1943 of Hopewell High School. Also, we have reservations from North Carolina, South Carolina, and Delaware. One member, now living in Ger¬ many where her husband is sta¬ tioned, has replied sending her regrets and best wishes to all class member on this occasion. Reservations from members liv¬ ing in Hopewell and surrounding areas — Richmond, Chesterfield County, Petersburg, and Prince George County - are lagging.. Many have expressed their inter-; ests in attending the reunion but, ' have failed to send in their res¬ ervations. The Reunion Committee is hop¬ ing that this will be a gala event, as twenty years ago our Coun¬ try was in the midst of World War II and so many of our grad¬ uation ceremonies were affected by the war; Many of our mem¬ bers were in the Armed Services and unable to attend any of the I exercises; and even our Kaleido-] scope was a War Edition.
