For a money-making project the class sold home-made ice cream with toppings at the grade school field day in May. The year was full of activities for the Junior Class. Their first money-maker was a supper to help kick off the Hope Centennial weekend. A lot of time was spent planning and preparing for prom. The seniors provided good leadership to a very young team. The Lions season was highlighted by placing third in the Ike League Tournament. The team found that through hard work good things do happen! Darrell Shippy and Laura King were named King and Queen respectively. The Lioness fought a hard game but came up short in the end, 42-52. This year our Pep Club consisted of thirteen members, including six cheerleaders and one mascot, all under the direction of Mrs. Janelle Riedy. We worked at 3 concession stands and had a face painting table at the first football game. Although we were small, we tried to make up for it in spirit. The Pep Club hopes to have more members and enthusiasm for next year. Under the direction of Richard Parks, the band marched at the Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson and at a few home football games. Other activities in- cluded League Band Festival at Wake- field, Christmas and Spring concerts, and the State Music Festival, where the band received three IV’s. The band ended the year traditionally by playing at Gradu- ation. The band is very sorry to lose sen- iors, Brad Riffel, a one-half semester member, and Kristie Coup, the John Phil- ip Sousa award recipient. Future Clarence Clemens All right! For 13 people, 4th hour this year was spent singing in Chorus. Although we started with 11,2 people joined 2nd semester. First semester, we sang at the Senior Citizen buildings, both at Hope and Herington. We were also featured at the Christmas concert. The League Vocal Festival was held at Westmore- land and we attended. The last semester was spent preparing for Regional 1A Contest for Ensembles, where the Girl's Ensemble received a III and the Mixed Choir received a IV. Our last presentation was the Spring concert. What are you two up to now? “Tonight's the Night! was the theme for the 1987 Jr Sr Prom. The gym was decorated in purple and white streamers with black castles setting the mood. The meal was buffet style with everyone getting plen- ty of delicious food to eat. The guests and their dates danced until midnight to finish the evening. It has been a tradition for over twenty years for the Hope graduating class to go to the Ozarks on Senior-Sneak. This year, however, the Sen- iors decided they would rather go to Kansas City. Their four days in Kansas City were filled with activities including attending a Royals game, eating, shopping, eating. Worlds of Fun. visiting the zoo. several tours, and yes. eating out. I'm glad we went to Kansas City. I think the classes should choose where they want to go each year instead of sticking to tradition.
