For our first money maker, after much struggle and hard work, we presented our junior play entitled “Books and Crooks.” Our second semester money maker was a soup supper. The highlight of the year was the Junior-Senior Prom which we talked and planned for all year long. The Hawaiian setting we dreamed of became a reality on May 6, when the gym was transformed into a “Small Paradise.” The music for the evening was provided by the band “Blackfrost’. Because of the knowledge and exper- ience we have gained this year, we believe it to be a year of success and look forward with anticipation to our senior year. The cascade smile. No spots! ooh-h-h. The Sophomore Class of Hope High had many challenging times. With such a small class they learned that determination, dedication, and responsibility are the keys to success. This year the sophomore class had a pizza supper for their first semester project, and a food consignment sale for their second semester project. Freshman girls work hard. The class of '86 had a very fulfilling year with many rewards. Their soup supper taught them that by cooperating they could “make things happen.” For their class party they went to a movie at Salina and ate pizza afterward. The junior high varsity and junior varsity basketball teams combined for a 20 game win season. The girls led by Laura King, league’s leading scorer, tied for second in the league standings and placed third in the league tournament. The highlight of the season was a 31-19 victory over the previously unbeaten Alta Vista girls. The boys finished fourth in both the league standings and the league tournament. Hope will have the league’s top scoring returnees next year, in both the girls and boys divisions with seventh graders Lori Polston and Tim Cross. The track teams also faired well this year. First the leadership and play of the seniors was very valuable in both teams having winning records. Second, both teams complimented each other and pulled for each which I think is especially important in a small school. Probably the highlight of the season was the 3rd place finish of both teams in the Eisenhower League Tournament. I would like to thank all those involved for a fine season. ANNUAL STALL Photographers this year were Doug Polston and John Lorson “Where are my pictures?” was a commonly asked question at annual staff meetings this year as it is every year. The photographers were kept very busy trying to keep up with the photo requests. Thanks to Doug Polston everyone got the pictures they needed to produce the annual. We begin as understudies, looking up to others, learning and prepar- ing. But, as do all good understudies we get our chance in the limelight. For some this moment is brief, for others it lasts years. Along the way there are endless cuts, retakes, forgetting lines and much help from cue cards and directors. Even then some of our best moments end up on the cutting room floor. Still we work toward the completion, the closing scene, and when it arrives we look back on all the time, work and tears involved and know it was well worth it. For although a movie is nice, our crew has produced much more; sixteen wonderful people ready to take on the world.
