The Lions, with the help of cheerleaders, pep club, and other fans, had several memorable moments. The Lions won the first championship in the new Dwight D. Eisenhower League. They won the District title and advanced to the Regional at ElDorado. It took three overtimes for the Lions to finally become victorious over South Elk which entitled them to make a trip to the State Tourna- ment at Dodge City — A dream come true. The Lions had a 13 game winning streak and an overall record of 23 wins and 2 losses. I would like to thank the players and Coach Anderson for helping to make this year “one of the best . Coach Anderson. Coach McCarty. Abilene Reflector Chronicle By Ed Dent There’s no doubt about it. The 1972-73 Hope High School basketball team is one of the best in the school’s history-if not the very best. After all, why shouldn’t it be the best. The caliber of athlete has improved so much down through the years that a team with 20 wins 20 years ago, probably wouldn't be as good as one today. Hope, after clipping South Elk 62-60 in three over- times last Friday to win the regional, is advancing to the lions win regional crown and journey to Dodge state tournament for the first time in 23 years. In other words, it just doesn’t happen every day in Lion country. Hope had a good turnout at Dodge City. Everyone who could get away was there to root for the Lion team. The rest of Hope was listen- ing to the radio broad- cast of the game and the streets were deserted. After the dis- appointing victory of Ransom over Hope, pride was still felt in the team for getting this far and in the town for its support. The team went down on Wednesday, March 15 in cars and buses driven by Mr. Mikkelsen, Mr. Little, Mr. Anderson, and Mr. McCarty. On Thursday, a bus driven by Mr. Herb Schimming, took a load of boys down to watch our game and return the same day. The girls were taken on a bus driven by Mr. Paul Lorson and spon- sored by Mrs. Shrimplin and Mr. Enright. Mrs. Fishel and Mrs. Carlson drove down to help sponsor the girls over- night stay at the Minneola United Methodist Church. The girls attended the even- ing session of the tourna- ment and left for home Friday after a visit to Boot hill and a shopping expidition. It was quite an ex- perience for all who went. Excellent sportsmanship, co- operation and behavior prevailed. Appreciation is extended to the school for providing transporta- tion and support. linda cook, queen of courts Senior attcndant-Wanda Backhus Junior attcndanl-Tcrri Barrett court attendants Sophomore altendanl-Joan Dillon Freshman attendanl-Vicki Cook Standing: Jerry A.
