Mope High School Hope. Kansas Mark Anderson. Kditor Sh _Lloh 1 fha l zcn 1 2 A specific period of time, usually less than a year, given over to some special work or activity is the school year. This past school year of the Lions of Hope High has been a period which was anything but passe as it contained strong athletic competition, scho- lastic competence, and a sense of interdependence. Containing photographs of and information about this school's members and accounts of activities, this yearbook is all our staff has to offer in the way of recording this previous year. We truly wish it is enough. The only reason we doubt our accomplishment of the feat is that the Year of the Lion is a broad subject. It's one characterized by gallant heroes, branded goats, and run-of-the-mill bullies. It has its standouts and its dropouts, along with the silent majority, who are neither dominantly superior nor incompetent. But somehow, through unexpected facets, everyone emerges and excels at least once if not more in some way or other. But many of these spurts of excellence often go unnoticed; partially because we don't know what to look for. It is particularly for this reason that the Year of the Lion is such an immense topic. Compositions for such purposes as this one usually don't follow this form. But let's face it. everything is not beautiful. The locker- bangers. assignment protestors, and scholastically lazy; will always be around. But our school boasts no more than it's share of these. No educational system is impeccable, and our school by no means is perfect. But its nothing to sniff at no matter what anyone tells you. The majority of today's educators believe that all that is necessary for improvement is scholastic and intellectual advance- ment at any cost. Knowledge is put over understanding and personal security irregardless of individual intelligence. I believe that more and more people are realizing this. All in all, through the combined efforts of teachers and students, the Year of the Lion is something to hold in esteem. Little a The task of bringing students and information together is a never ending relationship. This formation involves honor and integrity of man, concerns society and the nature of knowledge itself. The end product of this formation and educational process is students; the result is the society in which you live. Knowledge is power. Use it wisely in developing your skills for selecting values that guide your future lives. Congratulations and best wishes to each of you. LESLIE L. WORRELL c l laiiatjz When there are no new frontiers to conquer, a person must strive to improve his position in the environment in which he lives. A good high school education-is the fundamental step. Without it a person is handicapped in this complicated, interde- pendent world. After high school you must become a specialist in order to compete. R. H. Vanderbilt, Prin. Roland H.
