I met my God And now I walk with Him Weep not my youthful friend, I shall not die again. As long as there's the sound of youthful laughter, As long as there's tears for youth to shed, Yes, as long as youth has memory, I shall not be dead. The sound of youthful laughter will be the phrase which we, as Rodney's friends, will long remember. We will remember him because he was one of us—he was a lover of fun and good times. We will remember him for his ability to cheer us up when we were in the lowest of spirits. We will remember him because he was a friend to all. We will remember him always. We, the Annual Staff of 1967, dedicate this annual with fondest memories to Rodney Allen Benhardt. 5 DRIFTING THROUGH TIME With our shiny new lunch pails and our brand new books, we entered Hope Grade School in the fall of 1954. The years went fast as we progressed in wisdom, age, and height. As green freshman , we timidly became apart of the fast moving world known as high school. The sophomore and junior years flew by, filled with ball games, the junior play, tests, and new class rings. In the fall of '66, we en- tered high school for our fourth year at Hope High School, not as conceited seniors but rather as perfect seniors. We passed the tests, staged our senior play, danced at Prom, cried at baccalaureate and said our good-byes at graduation. As the seniors of 1967, we give to you our book of memories, as we go DRIFTING THROUGH TIME. ADMINISTRATION Personal Message by Mr.Kuhn You, the Seniors of 1967, are moving out into a society of general unrest. Walk- outs, sit-ins, marches, and demonstrations seem to have become the present method of expressing views and seeking individual rights and privileges. There are no short cuts to freedom and justice. Our United States Constitution and our American Heritage formed bit by bit down through the years of history, point the way for mature and intelligent pursuit of your rights as individuals and as members of society. By preparing yourselves now you can and should, become not only honest and in- telligent voters, but office holders as well, in a government structure to protect and further justice and freedom for all mankind. The Board of Education sincerely be- lieves that your twelve years in the Hope Schools will help you to meet this challenge. We congratulate you and extend to you our best wishes. 8 Howard Fry Milton Jacobson BOARD OF EDUCATION Cecil Kuhn Mrs. Eldon Oesterreich 9 Gerald Dorsch, Principal Donald P. They're having a grand time re-hashing old memories. Half of the fun of a reunion is seeing who's falling apart the fastest and this class is no exception. Let's take a look: Barbara Anderes is now a cover girl for a nationally known magazine where she spreads her sweet smile all around. LaVerda Backhus is the author of a recent book on Sex and the Single Hairdresser . Jean Falen has joined the Wacs where she is saluting all of her officers who are Soldier Boys . Sharon Sandow now runs her own ditching service . It seems she had a pretty good start in high school. Sonya Gravatt and Company” is a large industry which turns out ready-made pranks for Halloween. A recent song writer and poet is Roberta Pray. Her practicing at both of these items during Typing II has had a tremendous effect upon her career. Kirk Denny now runs a taxi service all his own. Besides his faithful truck, which served him during his high school days, he has a fleet of trucks which hold more people than ever. Huck's Little Service is a clothing store whichcaters solely to midgets. Those midgets are pretty «winging people, huh? Christine Lorson is now the leading detergent advertiser in the nation. It seems her favorite fabric softener is Downey. Jean Haas is the leading box office attraction in the nation. Her current film is Lady Godiva meets the Wolfman. Lavada Kickhaefer is now drill team leader at West Point. Carole Ettridge now runs her own fish hatchery.. Jim Williamson now runs a reducing salon for all the nations' leading women. Jim is one person who really bowls them over! Larry Timm is now happily married and runs his own zoo which is composed entirely of baby bears. Gary Riedy is still hard at work on the Rock pile. Elwin Thompson's gift of gab has finally been put to good use. He's one sports announcer who doesn't need a microphone. Chas Davidson is now the constable in the city of Hope and every night he and his green machine run Ralph out of town. Chris Davis is now the head greeting-card consultant at the Hope Rexall Drug Store. Pam Wolf is designing clothes for bachelors but as yet hasn't sewn one up. Janis Lorson is married to a team member of the Saint Louis Cardinals and now has her own nest of baby birds. Patty Bernhardt is president of the Chewy Bubble Gum Company and now has been elected Bubble of the Year . Melvin Riffel is still a senior at Hope. He still stays in every night for some prank he pulled in bookkeeping. Kristy Brockmeier is the leader of her own little band. Their favorite command is Roll-off! Tracy Riffel now has a fleet of lawn mowers and earns 50 cents an hour for his services. Jake Downey is working his way to the top of an automobile factory. He now gets to scrape the dirt off of hubcaps. King Verne Arlyn Jones, II is mayor of Woodbine; all his secretaries' names are Judy. Danny Brunner is the narrator of the film entitled The Dangers of Lung Cancer. Patty Riffel is head secretary to the president of the U.S. Only one trouble—she isn't a Lady Bird. Gene and Jan Scott are the world's greatest track team. They have one problem though, they can't decide who is going to run and who is going to time. 22 UNDERGRADUATES Elvyn Jones Connie Beltz Larry Gruber Cindy Calkins JUNIOR CLASS Candy Schuster Denny Kerbs Connie Brown Terry Davis Mark Riedy 24 Janet Rock Steve Lorson Sharon Morgan Eddie Piper Rita Lorson Norma Weber Martha Oesterreich Kenny Tummons Duane Dittman LaDonna Engle Cindy Schaaf Barbara Miller 25 Sandra Haire Mike Beltz David Schimming Jim Bernhardt SOPHOMORE CLASS Deanna Boyce Arthur Davidson Karen Guthals Sheryl Schlesener Gene Brockmeier Jeri Rutz Lloyd Pschigoda Glen Riedy Barbara Riffel Carolyn Riffel Dianne Whitehair Craig Janke David Ihde Charles Piper Lee Rohrer John Rickenbrode Cheryl Moennich Kenneth Backhus Kevin Donnelly Pam Farres Mike Farres Patricia Lorson Ronnie Rock Donnie Lorson Larry Schlesener Hilton Helbach John Lee David Anderson Kathy Neuschafer Patti Lay FRESHMAN CLASS Donald Lauxman Christine Sandow Janet Deines Phil Lorson Craig Davis 28 Alan Schlesener Niki Kuhn Gene Bielefeld Joyce Riffel James Riedy Kathy Morgan Lane Rock Sharon Riedy Joyce Lorson Alan Bethe Patricia Rufener Hubert Farres Linda Guthals Wayne Schuster Sharlene Morgan Steve Walker Junior class: left to right, Martha Oesterreich, sec- retary; Rita Lorson, treasurer; Barbara Miller, vice president; Sharon Morgan, president; Janet Rock, asst, annual editor; CindySchaaf,STUCO;Mark Riedy, asst, business manager; (not present) Terry Davis, STUCO.
