During this time she has taught Home Economics along with being Annual Staff Sponsor, Junior Class Sponsor, and FHA Advisor. She, also, was District FHA Advisor for two years and Assistant District Advisor for three years. As the Junior Class Sponsor she helped with the Junior-Senior Banquet. In the year 1963-64 she stepped in and helped by teaching Freshman and Sophomore English. Mrs. Hatfield did a marvelous job of planning the new Home Economics Cottage and working in it after it was built. We, the Annual Staff of 1965 dedicate this annual to Mrs. Hatfield in deep appreciation for all the help she has given us and all the other students of Hope High School these past eight years. 4 THE CHOICE IS YOURS Which road will you take? Each senior must soon make this decision. He must decide whether to further his education in college or to obtain a job; whether to marry immediately or wait until trained for a career. The four years spent in Hope High School will help him make this decision. Expanding Hope High Agriculture Building Demonstration of New Equipment. The new agriculture building has added many facilities to our school. It has provided a wood- working department, better facilities for shop projects, more complete equipment, and a new class room conveniently located. The new home economics build- ing has provided four complete kitchen units and an automatic laun- dry unit for the various home economics classes. Also, ample space and equipment are provided for clothing and discussion classes, F. H. A., and other group activities. ADMINISTRATION Mr. Donald P. Little Superintendent THE CHOICE IS YOURS Students: be grateful to your parents, board of directors and teachers for providing you with an outstanding educational institution and opportunity to equip yourselves with a bag of working tools to meet the social and economical pres- sures confronting you throughout life. We can only help make op- portunities and success available. What you do to make adjustments in a changing society depends entirely upon you. Will you be successful or will you be a burden upon society? Which road will you travel? The choice is yours. I am keenly interested in the success and welfare of the Senior Class. May I extend to you the heartiest congratulations upon completion of your high school career. Personal Message by Donald P. Little 8 Mrs. Laverna Wuthnow Secretary CECIL W. KUHN CLERK HOWARD L. FRY DIRECTOR Board of Education MILTON JACOBSON TREASURER Personal Message by Milton Jacobson The changes in society, social living and education since your birth have been the most accelerated the world has ever known. Yet it is anticipated that the next two decades will bring even more tremendous changes. As society changes, so the role of education changes. Our schools must see to it that students not only learn the skills, values, and knowledge needed in an urban-industrial society, but that they also acquire those skills and under- standings which will fit them for world understanding. President Johnson said that the basic cause of all our social cancers is lack of schooling or inadequate schools or programs that do not fill the needs of youth. It has been the aim of the faculty and board of education to provide a program in our school that will fit your basic needs. This is the Space Age and the education you have received thus far is only the launching pad for your future. The board of education unites in extending congratulations to you upon completing the required course of study and urges you to continue, with higher education. 9 Mr. and Mrs. Milton Jacobson, Roy, Carol, and Pam The Administration and Families Mr. and Mrs. Howard Fry Mr. and Mrs. Donald Little, Connie and Parker Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Kuhn and Nicki 10 FACULTY MR. All twenty-five of them decided to rent a monorail and make one big day of it. Barbara Backhus has just returned from the 1975 Olympics. She is the first girl in history to run around the world. We always knew you were swift in high school. Barb. Marilyn Berg is still her little bashful self. She is now coaching her own basketball team. Her motto is— Beat'eml Who cares how. LaDonna Bielefeld is now the leading bird-watcher in the country. It seems her favorite bird is the Cardinal. I wonder why? Dan Coup is now the president of the United States. This is something we all expected anyway, because he became president of everything else. Kay Denny is still working on a bookkeeping problem she had in high school. She can't figure out why the debits and credits don't go in the same column. Sharon Dittman is now the mother of eight hundred children. Now don't get me wrong. She is running an orphanage. Jim Donnelly is known as The Fugitive. He turned to crime after Mr. Smith caught him chewing gum in study hall. Walter Gruber is a window washer at a girl's sorority house. He works twenty-four hours a day. Janice Hartman has been touring the country as a lecturer. Seems she couldn’t let her gift of gab go to waste. Linda Helbach has taken time out from her laboratory work to attend the reunion. She is attempting to perfect a new formula to remove freckles. Patti Hill still hasn't lost her knack for driving trucks. She now drives semi-trucks for Tiede Truck Lines. David Hostetter is married and has three little boys. They run around wearing black leather jackets and riding motorcycles. Roy Jacobson now has a very famous wrestling team. Of course they don't win many meets, but what do you expect of an all-girl team. Connie Little, the designer, who made Chanel” successful, just designed the new Gownless Evening Strap. Leo Lorson is now the leader of a famous debate team. He still likes to argue as well as he did with Mr. Dorsch. Dennis Moennich's muscles are being pictured all over the country on a bottle of cleaning fluid. Rex, of course. Pat Morgan is now a very successful mechanic. The motor in his car purrs so softly that he has to feed it Puss-in-Boots so he can hear it. Christine Pray in a ditch. No, she isn't a ditch-digger; she lost her contacs there and is still trying to find them. Phyllis Rock is now appearing on the show, A Day In Court. She is still trying to get Hope's curfew extended from 11:00 o'clock to 3:00 o'clock. Terry Rotman has invented a car that can be driven by horses, cows, and pigs. It is known as a stock car. Joyce Rutz is now a successful Physical Education teacher. She teaches the kindergarten how to play Fox and Geese. Y vonne Schimming has advanced to drum majorette of her own band. Only trouble is she can't keep the front row from stepping on her heels. Merle Schugart is now the superintendent of his own high school. He says if there is one thing he won't allow, it's lolly-gagging. Steve Stroda recently wrote a poem for the song entitled The Song of the Over- worked Farmer. Steve writes of his personal experiences. The famous actor, Lee Walter, has just stepped off the monorail. Lee has recently been working as a replacement for Tarzan. 23 i Four highest magazine salesmen Doggie winners Senior How many legs do you have, Patti ? Activities Concession stand !!! Along with shop work, the boys study about soils, crops, livestock, and farm management. This was followed by two days spent selling annual ads, one day in Herington and one in Abilene. Once we had advertisers to help pay for the annual, the picture taking started. In October the staff started their night work sessions. Page by page, the annual was slowly put together. At times we felt it wasn't worthwhile, but then we began to re- alize just what was going into this annual. When the annuals came out at the end of the year, we finally knew that they would mean a great deal to us and others in the future. For in the 1965 annual was a record of our achievements and of the time and effort we spent in our classes, activities, and organizations. As we leave Hope High we hope that in this annual we have left something which each of you will enjoy. Mr. and Mrs. Hatfield at a work session What were you saying, Leo? JUNIOR-SENIOR BANQUET The 1964-1965 Junior-Senior Banquet and Prom was enjoyed by all who attended. In the Misty Moonlight , the theme, was the setting in which umbrellas, spar- kling rain, and misty flowers helped carry the mood of excitement along. Our very delicious meal was prepared by the Juniors' mothers, with Mrs. Eshbaugh as the General Chair- man. Mr. Howard Fry then gave a speech which held the interest of everyone. For entertainment at the Banquet we had the Balladiers from Manhatten. The Banshees from Lindsborg played for the dance. The Juniors would like to say Thank You to everyone who helped in preparing for the special night.
