Faculty- in addition to teaching and Hope High School activities, our faculty assume re- sponsibilities with other professional or- ganizations. This year we are featuring the activities of a few of our teachers. Mr. Stanley Ricker, our band director, has had the honor of being selected to appear with the Warren Covington Band, which is the former Tommy Dorsey Band. He played string bass at appearances in Topeka, Wichita, and Lincoln, Nebraska. This is the band that performed at the Night Show at Hutchinson this year. Mr. Gerald Dorsch was elected treasurer of the Dickinson County Teachers' Association last spring. Aspart of the duties of this office, he is a member of the County Teachers' Association Ex- ecutive Council. Hope Rural High School basketball coach, John Heidebrecht, does a little playing himself along with his coaching duties. Mr. Heidebrecht has been a player- coach intermittantly during the last four years with the strong McPherson Mimco basketball team. Beginning his player- coaching duties after laying out of college one year, Mr. Heidebrecht has become a part of the strongest A.A.U. basketball team in this area. Comprised primarily of Honors leges, McPherson Mimico has been a winner of six A.A.U. and town team tournaments during this period. Last year Mimico missed a chance to go to the National A.A.U. tournament at Denver when they were beaten in the final second of play at the Missouri Valley A.A.U. finals. This year the McPherson team has placed second at the Abilene Cedar Crest Tourney and also at the Area Six A.A.U. Invitational Basketball Tournament at Ponca City. Mr. Heidebrecht plays guard and assumes coaching responsibilities of this team when his schedule permits. Mrs. Florence Hatfield was appointed a member of the Home Economics Publi- cations Committee of the American Vo- cational Association. This appointment is for a period of three years. This com- mittee is responsible for evaluating, se- lecting, and writing booklets and pamphlets to be published by the National Vocational Association. Mr. Williams Yakle is currently the Vice-President of the County Teachers' Association. He is the program chairman for 1963-1964, he is also a member of the County Teachers' Association Executive Council. Because of this elective office, he will be the President of the County Teachers' Association for 1964-1965.
