Departments Of Science And MdllI6m0fl.CS The Math Department consists of Algebra I and II, Geometry and General Math. In these courses the students try to gain a better understanding of nunxbers. figures, and equations. The Science Department gives the stu- dents a better understanding of the world in which we live, and the plants and animals in our world, also the atmosphere. These departments are headed by Ray Nonken, a graduate of McPherson College, who provides capable leadership in these fields. Mr. Jack Sloan, as Superintendent, LaVerna Wuthnow is our efficient directs the work of the School Board school secretary, and faculty, who work together to give the students of Hope High School the best of education. The Administration , A building is just a building until you add a group of students and a good administration. Then instead of just a building you have -a school where the youths of today are taught to be the citizens of tomorrow. School bifsiness, problems, and worries are taken care of by the people we know as our administration, and a school could n6t function without their work. The goal for Vocational Homemaking is to help the students as family members to improve personal, family, and community living. The Homemaking Program has three related parts. They are class experiences, F. H. A. , and home exper- iences. Each of the three parts teaches homemaking skills, helps the individual to understand themselves, their families and the people in the world about them. ln Future Homemakers of America three degrees may be earned, the Junior Degree, Chapter Degree, and State Homemaker Degree. Home projects in the areas of family relations, foods, child care, home management, housing, cloth- ing and health are carried out by the time the third year of homemaking is completed. These seven pro- jects are also required for the State Homemaker Degree. The capable Home Economics teacher is Mrs. Florence Hatfield, who received her A. B. degree at McPherson College, and her M. S. degree in 1939 at Kansas State College. She is also chapter adviser.
