Gloor. Nlrs. Roess. FACULTY The directors of our great drama have been our teachers. who have supervised our rehearsals and have prepared the way for our premiere. The night of our performance brings to our minds char- acteristic scenes which we shared with these instructors. 'tXN'ho hit that sour note? is the phrase that recalls to us Miss Cox. our music supervisor. .Ks our commercial teacher. Mr. Stetler. watched us every morning run for typewriters. With a grin or a grim expression he listened to our persistent banging on the machine. You'll pay for that means that Mr. Clark heard a test tube break. liy the school year some expense bills had grown into many dollars. lfrom Mr. Larimer. our l'.O.lD. teacher. we learned much about life in a family of and four girls. Miss Sank, our linglish teacher and play clirectiir. never failed to pick out those made noise when she was out of the room. lf she had not heard our voices. our facial betrayed the guilty. livery morning at eight-tifty Mrs. Gloor warned us. OUR MANAGER MR. LARIMER Mr. Larimer has served as the manager of the theater. He has had charge of all that took place in the theater. If any of the players did not properly perform his daily activities. Mr. Lari- mer took charge of him for a session after the performance. There is scarcely a student who has not wandered into Mr. Larimer's ottice to have an excuse signed. Many of these students left the office with their ears banging See you at ten minutes of four. More than a disciplinarian. Mr. Larimer has also given us many privileges. He has granted us time ot? from school for such matters as having our graduation-pictures taken. as well as for preparing for any other class activity. Nevertheless we always felt that we were not given enough time on' from school. Mr. Larimer coached the Hoovers' basketball team. His rules about smoking, girls, and late hours were a subject of much complaint from both boys and girls. It was quite dillicult for the boys to keep on such a narrow path: but. rather than risk being! thrown off the team. they obeyed. 'l'o our manager. Mr. Larimer. we wish to express our appreciation for his supervision of our studying and rehearsing. He will always remain an important tigure in the development of our performance. Basketball, Daffy Dills. y CLASS HISTORY Timid and cautious, we first entered the Hooversville High School for our initial rehearsal for the big event. We were very quiet when We lurked into Miss Sank's room. We had heard so many stories about Miss Sank being very strict that we feared a mistake might bring about the kind of reaction that has become synonymous with Miss Sank. For two years we were under the power of Miss Sank. After that length of time, we began to gain courage: and we found that she was not the mean person we had expected. Under Miss Sank's direction, we presented several assembly programs. We realize that it was Miss Sank's instruction and overseeing that assured our success. In the ninth grade we were introduced to William Shakespeare through Julius Caesar. VVe were glad when our acquaintance with Mr. Caesar ended. Little did We think that the following year we would again spend several weeks in his company. Our freshman year brought about also our first money-making event. Like most classes we wanted something different that would bring us the most money with the least work. It was then that we inaugurated a new fad by sponsoring a dance in the 'fRed Barn. The affair was definitely a financial success. With satisfaction in our triumph, we entered our sophomore year with a carefree mood. That year started with a bang, for mischief was our chief concern. We had no homeroom teacher dur- ing the first semester. This situation led us to become known as the worst class in the school. And so, in more ways than one, the bangs continued. Our junior year began with our sponsoring a roller skating party. We were afraid the whole affair would have to be canceled when our bus was an hour lateg however, when it arrived, we all hopped aboard to arrive in time for a few skates around the fioor, Our most important activity of that year was entertaining the Class of '46 with a banquet at the Green Gables Tavern. VVe had spent much of our time of our senior year preparing our yearbook, 'tThe Hillside. Many times the work seemed such a burden that we wanted to forget all of it. However, we were kept with the task until the final day of school. We were now nearing the final dress rehearsal for our performance. Excitement and antici- pation were growing steadily. Now our drama had grown from a mere fragment to a successful presentation. Final activities during the year were a bazaar and a class play entitled Daffy Dills. Four important events marked the final weeks of the school term for us. First was the banquet which the Juniors prepared for us. Our class night program was the second important experience. The final two events were our baccalaureate and commencement exercises. Garbed in our caps and gowns, we nervously and sadly took the places prepared for the seniors. With a quiet dignity we took our place among the graduates of the Hooversville High School. ........ ., .,...... . Ai' CLASS WILL We the Class of 1047. in the town of Hooversville, the county of Somerset, and the state of Pennsylvania, being in sound mental condition and unusually friendly temperament do hereby make this, our last will and testament: VVe, the Seniors, leave to Mrs. Gloor five minuets for meditation. VVe. leave to Miss Sank all our quotations from Shakespeare, Milton. and Goldsmith. XVe bequeath to Mr, Clark the stench from our chemistry class. YVe leave to Mr. Stetler all our broken typewriters. , YVe give Miss Cox a very talented pianist and a music stand and a baton for directing our chorus and band. Wie leave to Mrs. Larimer all our legal excuses with the hope that he will not investi- gate them further. We leave to Mrs. Roess the memory of our pet snakes. VVe bequeath to Mr. McDowell, our janitor. the secrets of all the notes in the waste baskets. NVe bequeath to the Hooversville High School the chalk dust from the erasers and all the books lost somewhere in the building. NVe leave to the junior Class all the argu- ments which they have ahead of them as Seniors. May they fare better than we did. We bequeath to the sophomores the fun of planning the next junior-Senior banquet. We leave to all the other classes the idea of looking forward to all the activities that accompany upper classmen. The play was presented on March Z7 after many rehearsals and tiresome work for us and for our director Miss Sank. Several times we decided not to give the play. VVe argued and caused great disorder in the class: however we tinally agreed to settle down to work for the play. After that decision we did work, and were able to present the play. We were seared when the night of the play arrived. but we carried on the performance with more success than we had expected. The east of the play included: XVilliam Linck. WILLIAM LINCK CLASS PROPHECY Catherine Cybert. nee Poginetus. the eminent Broadway playwright and producer. has been searching in vain for a cast that can do justice to her latest play, On the VVings of the Atoln Bomb. Only a most versatile group can portray the complexities of her ultra-modern drama. Much to her surprise, her search comes to an end whe11 she attends the tirst reunion in twenty years of her high school class at the Hooversville High School, Hooversville. Pennsylvania. It is this group that starred in 'l'he Drama of School that comes to her rescue. During the conver- sation with her friends. she discovers and tells her friends that their experiences enable them to play the difficult roles of her drama to perfection. Presiding over the gathering is Dr. james Rodger. a former otiice boy and brilliant student. who is now the superintendent of the Hooyersville Iligh School. the most modern and progressive school in Pennsylvania. Ilis efficient private secretary is Grace Lech. who also acts as secretary for the Alumni Asso- ciation of the llooversville High School, In Dr, Rodger's school is another graduate of the Hooversville schools, Elaine Swank, who teaches Russian and Chinese and who writes thrilling stories under the pen name. jetta Propel. Among those who have come from other parts of the country is one of the heroes of lilaine's daring adventure stories, William Linck. who heads the newly-formed Department of Aeronautics in Washington and who is the inventor of the wrold famous Zing Zang Bomber. Sitting beside him is his smartly dressed wife, the former Angelica Peline. who has been voted by the nation's fashion critics as the best dressed lady in America. 'l'o the ladies of the Class of '47 the chief attraction is Angelica's coitfure which has been styled by the now-smiling Madame Rene, better known as Dorothy Matse, whose exclusive beauty salon in New York City caters to the socialites of America and to the visiting royalty of liurope. Also from New York City is Dolores McKenna, who is the founder and superintendent of the Dill Asylum for Incurrable Neurotics. Dolores says that her class play, Daffy Dills, gave her the inspiration for the founding of the Institution. CLASS PROPHECY The fact that Dolores is as yet unmarried surprises, no one so much as it does the dashing Gerald Shaffer, who after all these years still carries the torch for his high school sweetheart. Even his many and varied duties as president of the International Coal Truckers have not dimmed the light of love. Perhaps the rehearsals for Catherines drama will revive the romance and make it blossom into marriage. Urging the renewal of the past romance to Gerald and Dolores is the former Marie Bender, who is the wife of rancher Gary Showls of Cheyenne, Wyoming. As she talks, her blue eyes fairly gleam with marital bliss. 'l'he sophisticated lady sitting next to Marie is Verna Shaffer, who prides herself on being the co-founder with Dorothy Marshall of the Delightful Haven for Old Maids, with headquarters at Sauk Center, North Dakota, and with a membership of 1,693,745. Right now Verna looks with scorn at Dorothy because. it is revealed, five years after the founding of the haven the quiet Dorothy eloped with Verna's one-time sweetheart. Dorothy pays little attention to Verna's side glances because she is too devoted to her handsome twin boys. whom she takes with her wherever she goes. Since Dorothy's husband is a wheat farmer, she turns eager ears to Lois Bloom's explanation of her revolutionizing invention, the Televisible Farmer. by which, at the mere pressure of a button, the work of the farmer is done, while the farmer relaxes in his easy chair and enjoys the music adapted to each particular kind of task. just as Lois finishes her explanations, Harry Storey astounds everyone by disclosing that, aside from his work as chief operator of television programs at Radio City, it is he who com- poses the music for Lois's Televisible Farmer. Yes. Virginia Sitar is here, too. VVhile the others have been reminiscing and telling about their work and experiences. Virginia has been jotting down notes.
