Learning Today, Lea Tomorrow CONFUSION. Jodi McCreery tries to figure out a tough math problem. HARD AT WORK? Cindy and Bill are working at flirting with each other during Student Government. And you thought all that student Govern- ment did was to go to monthly Senate meet- ings. Well, you were wrong. Have you ever wondered who plans school rallies, noon-time activities, and paints signs for games? Well, it's the people in Student Government who do all of this and much more with the help of Mr. Smith and Mrs. Chase. One of their jobs is to promote spirit throughout the school. With- out all of the activities that they plan, school wouldn't be nearly as fun. Planning all of these activities takes a lot of time and organi- zation but the people in this class really enjoy it. Robin Holley, as President of the student body, did an excellent job as a leader as did Wayne Dixon as Vice-President, leading the monthly Senate meeting. 38Student Government CAN I Top Row: India Murray, Gia Valerie Franklin, Teresa Cross, Dixon, Robin Holley, Monte . , S VE YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE? W What is it called when you have ninety teen- agers from the FUSD, including seventeen from Hoover, pack up in buses and head for Sonora? It's the First Annual Youth Leader- ship Conference. This experience was shared with many school principals and some of the School Board members. It was developed by Mr. Ron Fleischer, a Hoover teacher, to help student leaders develop better learning, lis- tening, and leading skills. The two and a half days were spent in different sessions, making friends and having fun. On the last evening a simulated school board meeting was held. The fun was shared by the adults and kids alike. ig A' K S L to R top row: Cathy Harper, Lisa Fung, Aldy Tamayo, Darling Chavarra I ynette P . - Andrews, Pam Holmes and Sharon Kuan. Clubs Inspire Activities OW WOW. A few Mecha members discuss an important topic at a meeting hich was held in Mr. Marquez's room. The Mecha Club at Hoover is sponsored by Mr. Marquez. Currently, the club has approximately fifteen to twenty mem- bers. They mainly work together with the Youth Center which is located down town. They often participate in contests. They also have fund raisers because they are a self supporting orga- nization. Hopefully, by the end of the school year, they will have made enough money from their fund raisers to be able to go to an a amusement park such as Great America or Magic Mountain.
