The Spanish Club studies the culture, the customs, and the language of the people of Spain. Their big excursion this year was on April 16. They participated in a Spanish camp where you only speak in Spanish. The Club president is Erin McGuckin.The Club sponsor is Mr. Marquez. Harris. Take A Ride Cn The Orient Express. The AsianfAmerican Club brings together two different ethnic groups. They are, of course, the Asians and the Americans. The club, sponsored by Mrs. Markovich, travels to other schools and confers with other clubs to exchange thoughts and ideas. On November 23 they did sell fortune cookies to fund their trip to San Francisco. Spanish Asian-American 3 1

The French Club, under the direction of Monsieur Proudian, went Christmas caroling on December 12. The Club does not really study the language of France but more the customs of its people. Dur- ing the year they went to San Francisco and visited a French restaurant and the French Museum of Art. l I i l ' Spanning The Globe . The German International Club is a very interesting foreign club. They study the language, the culture and the customs of the German people. They went to Carmel this year to visit a language institution. They also went to San Francisco and ate at a German restaurant and then went to a foreign language exhibit. Oil Derrick Builders I WANTED to put my toothpick there, says Suriya Jeyapalan The would-be engineers sucked in their breath, pursed their lips and covered their faces. How much weight, they asked them- selves, could their structures support before crumbling? The answer came soon enough as the ama- teur engineers, students, in Hoover's Mesa club, readied their oil derrick for competition.
