Sounds exhausting, doesn't it? HIS G0al Belng ln The HIPICS Well, Junior Ernie Duran is definitely used to that kind of life as a competitive swimmer. +1 me . . Ernie has been swimming competi- FEWW tively for almost ten years. Starting out Deborah Savage with the Fresno Swim Club at age seven, Steve Says he recently joined the Clovis Swim Club. W .Y 1 Y' Melinda Scales Being such a determined swimmer, Er- Demn Schab nie has broken several swim records. At age twelve, he broke the National record f fe,w , for his age group in the 500 freestyle, and S ' ended up being third overall in the U.S. l T , Randy Schmidt that year, according to a swim magazine. ' 5 1 Q Daralyh Schmitt When his club traveled to Mexico, he set 1' as .1 4S. Kyla Scott two records in the 50 and 200 meter , S'-' 1 g ' ' -l James Seabom freestyle. He has also made the Junior glflhs' L4 3 Nationals for the last two years and he 'i I' hopes to make Senior Nationals some- time this year. Rodney Sem Ernie was a member of Hoover's swim Q ii Denine See team as a freshman, while attending Si- 1 Betlllsellaffl erra Freshman School. As a Sophomore, ' Lame Seve' he placed first in the 200 and 500 yard f .j B freestyle in the North Yosemite League N and Valley Championships. Ernie is also 'lf an up and rising water polist, helping the Sam Sharp team capture the Valley Championship 6 K Kim Shepherd title for the second consecutive year this Pllllllp Sherrill past fall.
