John Nolen Joni Olsen Lenore Ottow Imagine traveling to a foreign country to live for a year. You find the people, customs, and education are totally dif- ferent. This is just what Petter Lidbeck did when he left his home in Helsing- borg, Sweden. After hearing so much about America from friends who had traveled here, Pet- ter decided that he wanted to see what the United States was like for himself. He found that California isn't just living on the beach and surfing. Even so, he likes Fresno. Petter found the United States very different from Sweden. The school sys- The Stars l l l l Somewhere Over The Rainbow. tem here gives students more freedom than in Sweden. They don't choose their own classes there. There is also a much greater emphasis put on school sports here than in Sweden. He especially likes going to Me-N-Ed's after football games. There isnlt as much to doin Fresno for teenagers as there is in Sweden, Petter said. In his country, a typical Friday night might be spent riding a ferry boat to Denmark. I Petter remarked that people are very friendly here, contrary to a more re- served attitude of the Swedish. He has made many new friends here, but espe- l cially wants to thank the Forden fami for allowing him to spend this year their home. I couldn't ask for a bett family, he said. When asked about his opinion American girls, he answered that they'l nice, but Swedish girls are nice too. After finishing his senior year at Ho ver, Petter intends to return to Swed and attend a university, where he pla to major in science. All of us at Hoover will be sad to s Petter leave, but our happy memories him will still remain.
