Ain't no stopping them now was just what the other teams in the N.Y.L. were singing about Hooveris 1980-81 Varsity Basketball Team. Although the Pates lost their first two non-league games, the Pates came back by defeating all but one of the N.Y.L. teams. As of this writing, the Pates are 7- 1, with one loss to arch-rival Bullard High. The most exciting game of the season was probably the Clovis West game, in which Hoover won to take possesion of first place. The Pates were led by seniors: Raymond Owens, Tim Gleason, Darryl Schmidt, Calvin Anderson, Mike Robinson, Greg Sullivan, and Lance Brangham. Hoover also had some very talented juniors led by Kenny Engel, Kyle Duke, Ken Wittwer, Richard Wilson, and Dale Clark. This was Tom Smith's second year as Varsity Basketball coach and he deserves a great deal of credit for the success of this years team. Congratulations to Coach Smith, Raymond, Tim, Darryl, Calvin, Mike, Greg, Lance, Kenny, Kyle, Richard, Ken, and Dale, for a job well done!! L Calvin Anderson and the ball sticks together
