The Year in . . . Who shot IR? JR Ewin of the hit television show Dallas f ic - - g P ' tureci above? kept us all in suspense over the summer, through the actor's strike and into December wonder- ing who shot him. This year in T.V. brought with it many new shows to try and boost ratings. Aloha Paradise, Hill Street Blues, Ladie's Man, Magnum P.I. and Foul Play were just a few of them. Some old favorites like Dallas, MASH, Three's Company, WKRP in Cincinnati, Love Boat and many more returned this season, but there were some that didnit. After twenty years on televi- sion, Walt Disney finished its last season, and Charlie's Angels, unable to survive another angel change also folded at the end of the season. Besides watching television. video games such as Atari and Intelevision was popular. Less expensive than Videodiscs, they start at about 8150. The videodisc is the latest of the new uses for the home T.V. It is a record that plays pictures when attached to a televi- sion set. Videodiscs and players have been on sale in the United States since December of 1978, but only recently this year be- came popular for those who could afford such a luxury. The players range in price from S499 to S775 and the discs are priced from S6 to S30 each. . . and adio 264

The Year in Fads and fashions come and go with each year. During the 80-81 school year one style worn by both sexes was Levis'501's worn with VANS' or Nike' tennis shoes. These styles were influenced by New Wave and the California look . Another look was sweats or warm-up suits. Those were very popular being sported in the supermarket to Cyou guessed itj sports. Some looks that were popular in big cities never really caught on in Fresno, such as camouflage. This is the wearing of khaki, camouflage prints and jungle prints. Another look was the preppy style. This did catch on a little here in town. Some ex- amples of this are kilts, oxford shirts and penny loafers. ads and ashions 263

To the delight of many, john Lennon and his wife Yoko re- leased their first album in five years. It was titled Double Fantasyn and was Lennon's statement of renewed hope for the world. A month after its re- lease john Lennon was struck down in front of his New York home by the bullets of a deranged assasin. Lennon left be- hind his wife, two sons, and millions of fans. The contributions Len- non made to society and the world of music have been immeasurable. Great is the grief of the American people over the loss of several superstars in their own rights this year. The loss of Mae West, john Lennon, Steve Mc Queen, Bill Haley and Alfred Hitchock, will leave an unfillable gap in our society. Mae West Cwhose pictured lower leftj whose famous quote, Come up and see me sometime , will always live on in the memories of those who knew or saw her in her many films. Steve Mc Queen, a rough and tough western movie film star, passed away, while in a Mexican hospital seeking treatment for cancer. Bill Haley of Bill Haley and the Comets was one of the fathers of rock and roll in the 1950's. Perhaps his most well- known record was Rock Around the Clock. Alfred Hitchcock, famous for his thriller movies and act- ing, will be greatly missed as will all the superstars who made such an impact on our lives. Deaths
